Parking sensor missing - crashed.

Just out of interest, I spoke to Nextbase. Parking mode is basically ‘off’ except for the g-sensor.

Curious. I assume this was Nextbase 'support'? This is indeed what their website says, which immediately devalues the whole thing in my book

I also have to pay additional £200 to use my own garage, SI! Our insurer will not assist with that refund.
Is that right? I’ve never experienced that before with Direct Line, my insurer. They encouraged me to use their own preferential rate garages but I always stood my ground.

It may be built into your small print but I’ve never heard that before. Is that even legal?

Check this out…. I’d go back and challenge them…

When our Spyder was hit in a car park (insured Direct Line) as we didn’t need a loan car I just did a “third party takeover” and dealt direct with LV and chose a suitable main dealer repairer.

Yes, that’s possible but I want to get everything logged and ready in preparation that they somehow try to get out of any blame.

The actual claims person immediately waived the charge without me asking, since there is no doubt as to circumstances.

Indeed it was - and I agree.

A bit of history for those interested. Our fitter always connects our dashcams to ignition live, not permanent live. First time, I called Nextbase and they said it should be permanent live (hence, I guess the permanent recording you are talking about)-since the internal battery literally lasts 60 seconds max. So, I moved the wire in the Merc to a permanent - lo and behold the car battery went totally dead overnight. It seems that there is a cutout on Nextbase which switches it off as soon as the car battery reaches 11.6volts. I may be wrong but that’s what happened and the AA told me that 11.6v is not enough to start the car, so ever since I have continued to have them ignition wired.

I just got lucky a couple of days ago, I think.

Do let me know if you discover more. I use 522GW cams in all cars.

Hmm, thinking about it, it's still waiting for the hard wire, so it's in the lighter ATM. Our local chap has the adapter, but hasn't got around to sorting it so probably not permanent ATM. I will let you know

We're drifting a bit here, but... so the options are:

Always recording / overwriting but kill your car battery
Miss the point when a bump happens and only record what happens after the bump

Is that right or do any dashcam companies manage to have a battery with a bit more welly?

That's more or less my understanding. Constantly recording and over-writing itself and when it detects a bump it stops over-writing the xx seconds prior to the bump.
My thinkwhere dash cams work just like this, so actually provide an extra level of security for the house as they capture movement as well as the g-sensor.

There is also a battery “protect” feature which you can adjust - max 36hours parking. Has to be hard wired to both “permanent live” and “ignition live” and I use a OBD plug through adapter for this.

From my limited knowledge of SM so far, it would be very remiss of me not to start a thread drift! Actually it's an important subject, as I have always considered dashcam to be an essential, so maybe I'll start a new thread on the subject.

We've made the claim and already received a letter from insurance saying the other party's insurance accepts liability. I prefer to keep the car as perfect as possible.

lt's very easy so far! @conaero is preparing quotation.

After a call from the other party’s insurance (Tesco), I have handed it over to them in its entirety and they have cancelled the claim via my insurer. It’s early days but I am actually really impressed so far. Matt is running the quote.

Will keep you posted, as unfortunately this is something that many of us might have to face at some point.
