Air box mounts are pennies online, if I recall correctly they are M6 x 20mm anti vibration mounts. Personally I’d rip it out and go K&N.

I may well do that, you mentioned in the thread when I bought the car that you had details of what’s required, would you mind forwarding them please? I do like a bit of induction noise :)

In the simplest form it is very easy , literally rip that air box out as it is no longer fixed. You May need to listen the end of the bumper to get it clear. Replace from the end of the MAF with a straight 90mm silicone hose about 300mm long and one of the new oil free K&N on the end. Secure to the headlight frame with a re-usable 10mm cable tie. If you want to be more fancy make a nice bracket for it. On the 4200 it will pull air from the original bumper opening and around the grill to cowl. On the later ones the gap behind the grill is not so big. I’ll post the number of the K&N in a bit.

Here is a link to the oil less filter K&N (oil risks contaminating the MAF), I note it is showing as out of stock at the moment, I'm sure a call will give you peace of mind.

A length of hose SHL89 from SFS And you will need a straight connector to link the hose to the filter and three clamps (filter comes with one but you probably want matching :) also available from SFS.

When fitted you will need to do a throttle re-learn/reset procedure. Probably worth doing one anyway to suit your driving style.

Is heat soak not an issue at all? Would a 45 degree elbow not also be better than a straight pipe? Appreciate you have probably sussed all this out, but was curious.

Absolutely not on the 4200, the hose goes through the same hole in the inner wing, the filter is in the same space occupied by the old air box, the car benefits from the removal of all the Ferrari built restrictions of the airbox, particularly the 'rain guard' suspiciously blocking the inlet to 1/3 the required size! Also the filter is far higher so significantly safer from hydro-locking. Nothing hot in the near side inner wing area, some air is pulled in from in front of the radiators but I never noticed any heat issues and I definitely noticed a liberated induction :)

I’ve found that methalated spirits, the purple stuff takes that horrific gunge right off. If you are going to do the switches it brings them back to white plastic which I am actually quite happy with

I like that but what does it look like in the dark with the lights on?

Hi, was this car from a guy in Ludlow. Aiden, I am sure I went for a test drive in it. Really nice car, I went for one in Silver with Bordeaux leather. Glad to see it looking so nice now.

Hi Steve, yes it’s that one. I’m working my way through the to do list with it but at the price point I knew there would be a few niggles and things to catch up on.
How are you finding yours? I’m loving ours, it’s not what I expected at all, having owned a Granturismo, I thought it would have been a smaller version of that but it actually reminds me more of my old TVR Cerbera!

Hi Matt, its really good. I have never really owned a car like this before. Had M5's (e39) and some other cars like 745s and 540i (I like BMs) But had a Ghibli which had come to the end of the lease. and as a complete knee jerk reaction decided I still wanted a Maser in my life, so went out a bought a 4200 not really knowing much about them. Other than my mate had a 3200 which he crashed. It was nice up until that point. I am like your getting a list of things that need doing. I really like your tips on the chrome round the vents. Bought the Chrome Pen in readiness. Aiden was a really nice guy, and his car deserved a good home. This is my list

Fix the chrome vents.
Get the Leather internally back up to scratch. It faded a bit, but no holes and its only on the Bolsters front seat.
Get some Paintwork done. Or maybe just get it resprayed in the original colour.
Wing Mirror corrosion. Got a new one with no corrosion so just needs spraying and fitting.
Slight judder when braking. Thought had new Discs not long ago, but has been stood for a while.
Might need a Clutch. But will know more sooner.
Its booked in for a service at Shiltech which is just down the road. And a check over.

I might change the wheels at there a bit boring, but that is an after thought.

Cheers

Thanks, looks good at night as well, was worried there might be too much light bleed but that looks OK.

Cheers,

Watching this thread as a parallel to my own 2004 Coupe restoration adventure. She may be shiny, but she has issues. Some of the same issues and maintenance catch-up tasks as you, though with the additional joy of a Cambiocorsa transmission.
In the US, so my suppliers are a bit different. Please post pics of the airbox mods to accommodate the K&N air filter, if you decide to undertake it. Approximately what length of 89mm hose is required?

Took the Maser for its MOT yesterday, failed on a few bits,

Hole in front subframe, I knew it was a bit crusty, debating whether to get another subframe, get it cleaned up and properly protected, then do a complete exchange. I can then repair and do the same on the existing one and sell it to claw some money back?

Near side rear shock is leaking, looks like I’m going to get a used one from Eurospares.

A couple of Rusty brake pipes, think I’m going to replace the whole lengths.

All in, about what I was expecting.

Aside from the Mot, we’ve used it lots over the last few months and it has been great. Not got much further with the jobs list but we have stacked up a few miles!

New subframes were available or worth considering one from a dry state in USA to ensure rot free.
They seem to rot from the inside out so can appear ok until holes appear. I replaced my front subframe with new after similar issues, (Blasted and powder coated rear) have a search as posted it all in here a few years ago

brake pipes can be easily made up and there was a rear shock on ebay for not much.

You need to stop spending on the Mas and get yourself a decent mower!
