Afternoon all. I’m not that old it’s just that I’ve been dormant on here for years, having had to say goodbye to the 3200 more than 10 years ago. That’s bloody kids for you. However, the b@stards are fleecing me less these days and I can just about get back into Maser ownership again, albeit modestly as I’m looking at a three year old diesel Ghibli as a daily driver. I’ve done a search of the forums but not much comment to be found. So I’m going positive and I’ll take that as meaning they’re excellent and nothing ever goes wrong with them (as opposed to no one’s got one because they’re diesel.) Cheers all

Unless you are doing north of 18k miles a year, buy a petrol one. It's much better. You'll easily get 30mpg from it, against 40mpg from the diesel but the petrol cars hold value better etc etc. I know there are some diesel owners on here, I owned a petrol ghibli and drove a diesel one a great deal and there is no comparison. The diesel is average and a 5 series, E class or A6 pi&ses all over it in so many ways except badge cool. The petrol is a nice v6, sounds like a Maserati and goes well.

Hmm, I guess I was expecting something along those lines. However, having driven all four I’m not sure that I agree that it’s mainly badge cool. Each to their own obviously but the Maser pis*es all over the others both styling wise and presence IMHO. It is a tricky one for me as I still need to taxi the kids about and if I want to get the full sports car hit I could go for the best 3200/4200 I can get or stretch for a GT but I’ll be looking at older, higher mileage etc etc. Ahhh, there’s never enough money is there and I’m not sure people will crowdfund the difference! I won’t get much for one of my kidneys that’s for sure. Thanks for sharing your experience though, much appreciated.

Petrol Ghibli is a lovely daily driver. Goes great and sounds great as well. I've got one but it's a bit older being a 2014 which will be for sale shortly as I have another Maser in the pipeline;).

Drove the diesel but not for me but plenty of 3 year old ones I'm sure that would fit the bill if that's the age range you are seeking.

I agree on the styling, i owned one for quite a while. But honestly, the petrol one is better and running costs almost the same. And that’s before the snowflakes turn more pressure onto diesel. You can make a petrol one sound pretty special which just an x-pipe too.

My impression is that, at least initially, new Ghiblis were 50:50 diesel and petrol. But used ones are 90% diesel. I'm guessing that this is because most of the diesels are company lease cars being traded, while the petrol ones are private and being kept.

But maybe most of the petrol ones crashed.....

Can I also say, from one Mark C to another, that this is a pretty impressive lurk ratio:

Ha, thanks for outing me (not in that sense)! A shocking lack of commitment on my part. Still, hope to be back in the game soon. I wish my circumstances were different but I’ll still be happy with a diesel Ghibli - although I might be the only one! I expect you’re right given the relative proportions of petrol and diesel. Very few newish, low mileage petrols for less than £40k in a colour I prefer.

Not considering a QP5? Prices rock bottom, and if you get a DS the driving experience is there and let's face it, it's why we are Maserati fans, not to drive a diesel auto based on a Chrysler 300C with a Trident stuck on...

A proper car you have to hate it, dread it, drive it, enjoy it all at the same time....

When I bought mine the engine speed sensor failed, engine conked out on North Strand in Dublin, just about the worst place ever, main route into centre from Northside. So now every time I'm stopped or at lights I watch the rev counter. Started thinking, it failed nearly three years ago! Three years of waiting for it to go again...

I’ll get my coat....
You may need it when you are standing by the roadside in the rain looking at your 14 year old QP:D

Take Wanderer with a pinch of salt when it comes to Ghibli's - it's absolutely fine as a workhorse (I have a petrol mind you).

Sorry I can't help it! Everyone says to me, Steve, for it is my real name, you always go one step too far, I don't know why I do it, it's a character flaw, apologies....

No apologies necessary obviously. If I could stretch to a petrol I would. I’m still of the view that, given the choice of a BMW, Merc or Audi saloon as a daily driver, I’m sticking with the Maser. Like most blokes I’m confident in my driving abilities but I’m happy to say that the 3200 challenged my abilities on more that one occasion and I wrote off the Mondial :frusty5: there, I’ve said it. So I’m not looking to rag it. Comfortable slide into oblivion - just not in the Ghibli !

While I’m in a posting frame of mind, let’s face it I’ve been slacking, back in the day I did meet a number of (I was going to say Members but I don’t want to be misinterpreted) fellow enthusiasts down at Emblem followed by a sprint through the forest and then a pint at the Oak at Bank. Anyone else go to that?

Little chance of that, TBH

Yep another vote for the petrol Ghibli, make sure you get one with 6 pot callipers (drilled discs) as the 4 pot (Un drilled) are rubbish when pushed and warp. Get the Petrol and have it tickled to S horsepower, it’s brisk and drives lovely.

Good tech and well appointed cabin on all Ghiblis. I believe there is a revision date when they were vastly improved (2017?) and the first ones had cracking front turrets that you need to watch for.

Everyone calls me Tony and that isn't even remotely near my real name , i think they take it from the phrase "Too Far Tony".. it's not a character flaw either, where would we be if mankind didn't push the boundaries ;)
