Old Car, Modern Spec....

I've thought about this ages, goes against all my sporty-maserati instincts but...

I fancy this;

  1. Buy sound but not concours 1961 Cadillac Coupe from USA
  2. Convert to RHD
  3. New modern but 60's style dash with all the BT toys, CarPlay, Nav etc
  4. Rip out engine and trans and replace with EV motors, as per Neil Young's LincVolt
  5. Decent seats
  6. General soundproofing etc and stuff

Possible or pipe dream?

I know EV goes against my principals but this is a cruiser, not a sporty GT...

Thinking pseudo-Tesla in a 1961 frock......

It seems almost to be a trend with many classics being made EV from a Mini to an EType Jaguar.
Not for me I prefer a well maintained old school petrol engine.

I have been watching the Retropower YouTube series about Gordon Murray’s MK1 Escort. A stunning build and very much an old car with a new spec. Not EV though, a Cosworth built Duratec.

The first sensible EV debate. Get an existing car that's spent it's carbon feet and make it a tiny bit more eco friendly.. ish. Still needs work on the coal fired bit but heading the right way.

Oh, and they have cameos of their other project cars, including a Alfa GT Junior with a Millington 2.7 engine and a Stratos with a supercharged 3.2 Busso :shy1:

I’d rather rip the guts out of a Tesla S and replace with 9” ford rear end and big block V8 - I then offer the five young Greta a lift back to school

Mate has been looking into this, a Tesla spec motor complete with battery pack is best part of £20k before you have the build costs. Not cheap but could be super cool. Some of you might remember the Wheeler dealers where they had a Maser Biturbo with an old style electric motor setup.

Neighbour use to have a Volvo engined Marcos back in the day, lovely thing it was too
The Volvo straight 6 1800 was the sweetest engine, and allowed the Marcos to remain small light and nimble. I tried a 3 litre variant. I nearly pi$$ed myself.
