Old Adverts

Much to my surprised, the buyers of Mrs C's mother's house last year asked for a survey. And asbestos was found.

In 2008 or so, bought a couple of properties to build a school. One of the houses was owned by a roofer; he had used discarded shingles as "paving" for his driveway...every. single. one. was asbestos. Then a few years ago we replaced a school and dug up the slab of the old school to have it broken up and hauled off. To everyone's surprise/horror and my everloving expense, we found that the entire underside of the slab had been coated in asbestos containing material as a liner...

Sounds familiar - daughter and SIL bought a house from a builder a while ago. House backed onto a brook. Serious rain flooded the brook in 2023 and tore away bridge and bank gabions. Investigation found that the gabions were filled with builder’s rubble and asbestos. Needless to say the Environment Agency and insurers were not impressed!

I'd never heard of a gabion! Had to look it up, always learning. :)

The roof of my previous house was partly made of Asbestos tiles - had to taken off and carted away by guys in special suits at ridiculous cost a few years ago. But the dust left behind in the garden seemingly wasn’t a problem. A lot of show for nothing.
