On the A414 yesterday I got two stone chips in my screen in literally 30 seconds. Can't honestly remember the last time that happened. Well over 2 years.

Any thoughts of an invisible repair were swiftly put to bed this morning....

Oh well.

Man what a pain in the as*! What the heck, really gutted for you, I bet you’re really hacked off. So the crack develops overnight as temperatures changed. I feel for you catman what an absolute pain!

Happened on my Maser a couple of weeks ago then had two on our hatchback this week. Rubbish condition of roads, potholes, etc - surely must be a factor. V annoying. I have a £10 DIY repair kit from Amazon which copes with small chips but not anything major.

I figure it must have been thermal shock, or just driving to Tesco this morning. I honestly forgot I had two chips and had been faffing around with the valves which failed to give me an aurgasm on the way home from Nottingham yesterday (turned out they had got stuck shut in all the **** weather on Thursday.

Wasn't til I got back in the car in Tesco car park I noticed. Well, hard to miss :)

Zero excess full cost glass cover (up to the value of the car) so first world problem. :)

I’d say you’ve had a result. A brand new screen, for free, on a high mileage car. Excuse the pun, but you will see the difference.

I had a cracked screen on my QP, failed MOT but got a free one on insurance. They said it would be a no-name one, ie no Tridents on it but it wasn't - guess there's no market for no-Trident Maserati screens especially as they all seem to to come from the same place.

They are, as I understand it, made by Pilkington. One with a Pilkington logo and one with a Maser one - you got lucky. The only difference is the badge and the price. Just ask Athol - he has seen more screens than I have had hot dinners.

That, sir, is a bloody good point. I was thinking not so long ago (i.e. yesterday) that I might have to break out the cerium oxide and give it a polish.

Yep. Don't care where it comes from TBH.

Screens are so 'soft' these dsys.
Even my BMW with 23k miles when in the 'wrong light' is peppered with impact marks.
My old daily BMW had 130k or so on the original screen, and I would say it was actually dangerous in certain light conditions, however was not an MOT failure as it did not have any noticable stone damage, it is the micro impacts that are the problem.

Well, nice man from Autoglass came round today. Lovely new (Pilkington) screen. Great chap took care of my DAB antenna, adjusted my wiper arms, replaced one of my wiper blade clips and a couple of other trim screws.

If I want to be really picky, he could have cleaned it better. But on the whole I'm very happy.
