Evening

So I require a second car to keep the mileage down on the GTS but also I need to do runs to manchester and other places for general life stuff, so require a nice second motor.

Budget - 5k max

Prefer something like A4/A6 Avant S line estate - basically something that can carry furniture and stuff in the rear but is still high performance and pretty cool so a BMW 535D sport etc.

Anything out there in forum land or know a mate who is selling something interesting ?

Thanks

(see you at dreamcars if you are going)

I am sort of in same boat, I need to either do some repairs or replace my passat, had it from 18 miles, its11 in Sept and on 176k miles, wife wants me to get rid but I would rather plow everything I have into saving for next maser/ am/ jag xkr( lol), but then the passat may go ping and leave me in lurch, that Alfa looks good value but I know nothing about them, I tend to buy new and run until they are dead!!!!

1 vote for a smoker Alfa GT.......mines has 120k on the clock, same clutch from new, service costs only in last 5 years, 56 mpg, looks good and with mid range acceleration to match a beam'r or a Saab.......what's not to like!

I am in the same boat... Same budget and same use.
Being in central London, I would be looking at low emission cars to minimise street parking fees...
Bmw 3series and a6 estates can be found for this price online with 80k miles on the clock.

I bought a 2007 e92 BMW 320d on 91k miles 3.5 years ago, currently on 192k miles and going great. New turbo at 155k miles, second hand steering rack for £400 fitted last year and then consumables.

I need a second car for high mileage and id buy one again

gotta keep it Italian ;) a remap will see it with more power if its not enough

Nice car but I think Stewart wants something that will be on the road more than off it.................... (Sorry couldn't resist that) .......... From my experience te 159 was a step back in quality for Alfa from what I've seen........Had three friends who had these and all three said they would never buy another Alfa and one had 5 before a 159..........The little niggles got too much and they were at the garage far too much. ..but saying that there are a few on here including our leader Matt who have had a 159 with no issues I believe..... IF you can get a good 5 series Touring you will not go too far wrong as an everyday driver...

You will go a long way to beat a BMW smoker, they perform well and tend to plow on for mega miles

I'd agree with that although the same for a Merc/Audi. An e-class or A6 will give good service. I have an XC90 with 190k on that is not far off as good as new.

Yep think its looking like the BMW or Audi is looking more enticing than the Alfra Im afraid.... Some nice Mercedes estates out there as well :)

Be aware that Audi A4s aren't that big in the rear. If you need a lugger, an A6 would be better. Bought my Audi as I needed a 4x4. They're really lovely cars. Nicely designed and built.

Rockits idea of an XC90 might be a good shout - we have one as kid transport and it's an absolutely great car for lugging **** around (massive interior space), long grind drives and feeling safe. They're thirsty though, and old ones might end up getting pricy to run (not Maser pricey mind).
