Not a happy car

A different upgrade option. Fit in a used 4.7 engine from a GT-S. It’s what Alfa did when they turned a GranSport into the 8C, so it can be done.

Years ago I did a similar thing to my first 944 S. The original 2.5 lt engine dropped a valve, so lunched itself. I replaced it with the 3.0 lt engine from a later 944 S2. Worked a treat, giving me the most powerful and fastest 944 S around. I had the work done my my local Porsche main dealer to make it “official”. But in those days, main dealer labour rates were far more reasonable.

Ah that sucks big time

Was it going to be a keeper or did you intend to shift it eventually? It can still be a keeper or this is the time to cut your losses on it...

Was always going to be a keeper, my little project, but I am having second thoughts now, particularly after a 10 hour trip to kent today to look at the Grigio Alfieri Gransport at ADG :jpheart:

Gees, sorry to hear that. Shocker.

Tough one as I had a similar decision to make on my first TVR.

I like Ewan's idea of a 4.7 in a 4200 though.

As most have said and you have alluded to either a cost effective engine replacement.or if the numbers don't work sell it as a project for someone.

Does it still run? Can you nurse it to WBAC?

That Adg car is a lovely combo.

Thanks Ewan, have had a very reasonable offer to have a low mileage engine fitted, and also a good offer to sell to a breaker, was gradually making it as much gransport like as I could, so you may be right, and I really like the one that ADG have, decisions, decisions.
Sorry to hear about your car.
If you do go down the breaking route I hope you don't let it go for a song, my recent searches on eBay find that parts like door seal rubbers are an absolute fortune along with stuff like the front grill.
Best of luck with whatever you decide to do.

Will only run for a couple of mins, so WBAC is non starter,

I took and sold our work Toyota Hilux Invincible to WBAC and the guy never even started it. It was only 3 years old and was mint as I had detailed it before. He said it was one of the cleanest vehicles he had seen let alone it being a commercial.

We had it from new but it was.far.from mint before I spent a day detailing it.

Any tricks Emblem or anyone can do to get it there and just run for enough time to auction?

Not being unscrupulous btw as that is not my style....I'm far too honest for that but auction cars are sold as seen.

It must be worth a fair bit broken however I guess the biggest ticket item will be the engine.

Tough decision but if you can get maybe 5-7k as is I would be inclined to sell it and move on.

As been said earlier the Gransport prices are definitely a little lower than they have been so good time to strike a deal. Plenty around at the moment too.

I am reasonably happy with offer I've had, which is not quite up to that level, still undecided, a lot will depend on what the bank has to say, (being self employed it's not as easy getting a loan)

Good luck with what you decide...it is hard as I had it with the TVR but sometimes you just need to take the hit and accept it. It hurts but you don't go nuts try to chase the most cash you can.

I know the feeling on the self employed side. Had massive issues getting a mortgage 5 years ago when we moved and again remortgaging 2 years later! I'm a company director and employed per se but a small business as owner director often gets treated the same as self employed.

What I and surely many would like to do is have a fully stripped out 4200 to purely enjoy on track.
So many kilos could be lost and with some decent suspension would be so much fun.

Nice colour combo car that at ADG. I had a look a month or two back.

Problem solved, I've bought another engine, oh and it happens to be clothed in Grigio Alfieri coachwork, and has a gransport badge! which brings me onto this whole exhaust thing yet again. Now obviously having run a 4200 with virtually straight through pipes, this new beast is going to be a bit quiet! Now, I want to keep valved control, to keep the neighbours happy, but I'm thinking I might go 'H' pipe this time, has anybody got any video of comparison of 'H' and 'x', know I've seen it somewhere but can't find it, but my biggest priority is to get rid of those bl***y ceramic cats, having suffered the consequences of cat break up once, not something I can go through again. The likes of Larini are totally out of the question as the war chest is seriously depleted. I also have a theory about what may have caused my cat break up. I got lots of pops and bangs as I was running primary cats-x pipe-Larini rear boxes, are these 'pops and bangs' happening in the cat area of the exhaust? could these explosions cause the ceramic cats to break up? just a thought I had, and I daresay people with more understanding of how things work will have some thoughts on my theory. Can't wait for next week!!!! :tomato9:

Well done... I have had the same worries re exhausts and stayed standard... in fact I would not buy a car that had been messed with for this very reason.

Simply fitting an X or H will make precious little difference. For more noise you either need to lose the cats or change the back boxes (or both).
