No more V8 for Maserati - is it true?

Not sure how true this is but read an article that Maserati will no longer be making V8, and Willbe focusing on the V6 turbo engine and electrification of the engine.

Even more reason to hold on/buy Granturismo - end of the road naturally aspirated V8. I wonder if the MC20 will sound as good. After all, I am sure that exhaust note was a major factor for us here on this forum to buy a Maserati.

My understanding is that the V8s in the Trofeo's are a run out of the last of the Ferrari built engines which are no longer available to Maserati. It's unlikely that Maserati will develop one when they've just developed the V6 from scratch.

I guess if you can get 620bhp from the V6 why bother especially with the EU fines for CO2 emissions.

Pretty hard to beat the F136 when it comes to sound, beautiful noise in any car it was put in be it the 4200, QPV or GranTurismo.
It's a brilliant engine and when you stay on the gas, it has a lovely turbine like whirr. It really has a depth of ability and character, and it won't be repeated.

Latest Europe wide legislation is that all new cars are built to a noise limit of 75db. It sounds like it has a soft limiter when they revved it during the launch.

It will need an aftermarket exhaust

Well, based on the response above, I don’t think I will ever sell my Stradale then...

at this stage of my car ownership in general, I don’t care how fast the car is, but what the overall package makes you feel behind the wheel. No doubt the MC20 will be so much faster, but not sure if it can stir the soul in the same way the V8 in the granturismo does!

even more reason to keep the last Maserati NA V8 ?

Sadly, my next GT will be a dancing donkey because it has the requisite number of pots. Also, it won’t be able to go off-road or haul cr4p to the dump, but it will go very fast and carry enough gear for a 2-3 week Eurotour.

Not sure why this would be a suprise......In the current climate most are concentrating on smaller engines. The market for a V8 will get less and less as the years go on.....If the governments end up banning all new petrol and diesel in 15 years no point designing or building one as they will be concentrating on what's next or they will not be around.

Writing has been on the wall for some time, I suspect others will be following even the might dancing donkey as Benny calls them

Indeed, and the emissions on this new engine in the MC20 are just 262 g/km so it is certainly cleaner than we have been used to. The Stradale is 330 from memory

I guess we shouldn't be so surprised... not that I'm happy about it, but it's the way the car industry is going. The E46 M3 was powered by a straight 6... the next iteration was a lighter, but bigger displacement V8. Now the latest M3 is on a straight 6 with a pair of hairdryers on the side.

Same with the M5.... the E39 had the marvellous 4.9L V8, the E60 (and 61) had the ultra-reliable (LOL) F1-inspired 5.0L V10, and now it's on a V8 again.. with hairdryers. It won't be long before that's a 6-pot surely...

Sad times.

Well, finally got a chance to take the car out for a good drive today - first proper drive since April actually. I wonder if Maserati could ever make its V6 sounds as good. They are no doubt so much more powerful, but would it sound as glorious as the 4.7 V8, looking forward to hearing one!
