Hi Everyone,
I’ve recently purchased a Maser GT Sport 4.7 Auto and driven about 1k miles so far! However, as the weather has recently started to get colder I’ve noticed that from a cold start, after I’ve switched it in to SPORT and MANUAL and have started driving off slowly, the car begins to jerk back and forwards when in 2nd gear. To stop this I switch back to AUTO mode and once the engine has warmed up I can switch back to MANUAL and no longer experience the jerkiness... I’m assuming (and hoping!) the jerkiness is normal due to the engine being cold...? or is there an underlying issue I need to get checked out?!
(Thanks in advance!)

I don’t know for sure, but it doesn’t seem like it should be doing that. I’d certainly be checking it out.

Welcome to the forum, we would all love to see some pics of the stead you are taming!

Thanks Zep! I’ll get it checked out ASAP and post some pics of the beast once I’ve had a chance to take some decent ones!

It's Italian 'character', so don't worry about it. The fact it starts puts you one up, so don't get ahead of yourself. A jerk in 4.7 is just a Jerk in a 4.7. Put it down as 'sh!t happens' and crack on with life. You're welcome.

My QP used to do similar when driving off from cold and not using much accelerator. After 60s it was fine..

OP I'd not rush to a garage. My highly tuned megane does exactly the same thing, there's nothing wrong with it, just needs the gentle approach for a bit of a warming.

Thanks both! That’s put my mind at ease... I tried to replicate the “issue” again today but let the car warm up a little longer and it was smooth sailing :thumb3:

Hi chaps, I’m having a bit of a tough time taming the beast aka my GT Sport...! it may in reality be fine, but as this is my first ever high powered motor I don’t really know what’s normal and what’s not!

So... turned on the engine this morning, whilst waiting for the Mrs to leave the house and to warm up the engine a bit... as per usual the wife took longer than promised and as the engine was idling, being my cautious self I turned the engine off and then switched it back on to the MAR position so I could carry on listening to the radio... 2 mins later the low oil level warning light flashed up on the dash, so I switched it off and turned the engine back on and the warning light disappeared... I then took the car for a short drive to get the temps up and checked the oil level and it was mid way up the SAFE range (It was only serviced a couple of months ago)... Is this something I need to get checked out or is the Maser just keeping me on my toes with a false positive?

You sir have what a lot of enthusiasts have, warning light anxiety caused by past experiences and or others experiences.

Cars are like computers, and it is possible for them to throw warning signs and they disappear. I would however recommend plugging in an old reader to see if there is a fault pending.

These sensors are known for being a bit flakey, you have checked the measuring stick and it shows enough oil, which is the main thing.

It’s part of you and the car getting used to each other. You are pressing the accelerator and it sending out a few lights just to see if you are paying attention.

Don’t worry about asking when you see something, it’s not a sign you have PTSD. We are here to help :)

Thanks Zep... the car is definitely putting me through my paces and keeping me on the edge of my seat... As mentioned this is my first foray into anything more than a 4 pot engine... so it feels like a pretty steep learning curve, but one that’s worth it when the Italian orchestra plays when in SPORT MANUAL mode :D

Just to ensure I’m checking the oil level correctly, how warm does the engine need to be? In the user manual it says the temp needs to be stabilised. What does ‘stabilised’ mean? Is that engine on and idling for 5 mins? Or is it a good drive around the block to get the temps up to 90 degrees?
