Hi all

I'm new to this and looking for a Maserati 4200 for my dad.

Preferably a cambiocorsa and a facelift.

I'm thinking along these lines because of the upgrades and improvements on the facelifts. Would this be reasonable thinking??

We have had a look at a few, and definitely looking at black interior as we prefer these. Paintwork would ideally be dark or a sliver.

As long as its been well serviced mileage isn't a major problem.

Anyone have any suggestions, hints or tips? I've read a few threads on here. Clutch is obviously an important thing to look at and have percentage readings.

Any help would be massively appreciated.

I'll post a few links to the ones I've been looking at.

Thanks in advance guys (and possible girls)

Bienvenue Strike....usually a strike on here is an infringement of all that is sacred on this forum..........................but we will let you off today!!!!!!!

:)

Great car, great marque and finally a great forum you've joined.

Lots of info on here........BUT.....................and its a big and expensive BUT.....;).......do the research, narrow it down to one or two.............and then get an indie inspection to confirm how good it actually is. So you will spend £200 odd to ensure you're not going to have put right in the ensuing weeks ...to the tune of £1/2/3/4K.......

Enjoy the hunt...lots of help on here!

Thanks dickygrace, very nice of you.

Love the look of your Gransport. They are lovely cars slightly out of our price range though :) will have to "settle" with 4200 :)

Strike, it's a lovely car but £10-12k above a similar 4200. I have one, possibly two due in that may be to your liking. 'Settle' for a Maserati 4200, life's good when you can say that :)

Strike is my second name, Matt Strike.

Thanks for the advice.

Well then....you got the first Strike in!

Plenty for sale but as ever for each one the represents value for money there 4/5/6 that will end up as money pits

Great price, phoned the owner, serviced regardless of cost. High mileage but good paperwork. New clutch about 25k ago and abousily not a facelift

Everything looks good on this

Great low miles, but looks like cream interior :-(

Possible but not facelift?

Any comments would be good or if the cars are known???

As ever Matt...need to take both adverts and claims with a pinch of salt.

The only thing to put your trust in is that inspection mentioned. 25k on clutch means factoring a new one...ie £1.5K

If colour combo doesn't work for you.......walk on by

I can't make my mind up of late per facelift or hold out and find facelift? Is there much difference??? That you can actually tell when driving?

I have recently bought one after having a 2003 revised [but not face lift] version.

My newer car is much smoother compared to my last, but not as rapid as the 2003...but well worth the extra it costs over a pre-faced lift version

That's almost exactly the response I was hoping for. :) thank you

I also ran a 55 plate Gransport and an early 4200 simultaneously for 3 years , definately the 4200 was faster and more agressive and more of a thrill to drive , both have fantastic qualities but for outright brutishness grab an early 4200

Most of it down to gearbox software , and ecu progranming , the early 4200 was so sensitive and responsive throttle wise, more a kin to a hair trigger for the snipers out there lol , gearbox software less finesse that later models and kinda mildly clunky but at the same time threw you back in the seat when hard floored , a definate grin factor of 11 when driven hard , not so much fun in heavy traffic round town , but then its really a weekend /holliday tourer for me ,

Gransport and facelifted 4200's are more lazy throttle wise , and gentler on the gearbox side of things , just appears slower than the 4200 but as a car more of a much more sorted ride

I guess adding the FD DBW module to later cars has the same effect?
My FD DBW module has arrived, will be fitting it soon to my early 4200. Can't wait to see the difference!

Just hang on to that wheel with both hands if you have it on the most agressive setting and floor it , grin factor 12.5

I would go face lift as they had a number of improvements.........With Maseratis this age always go for Condition and history though over age...........The 2nd car on you list has been for sale for ages so could be a good deal on that one....

Oh, and a big welcome to the forum.....

the black one with the vents in the front wings looks to be a very rare model. It has silver calipers and chrome door handles also, must be the 'vintage pack', looks classy :) if it all stacks up, that would be my choice from your selection
