Hi

looking for some advice on potential Quattroporte purchase, and guessed you guys would be the best people for the job!

This will be my first venture in to the exotic car world, and don't have a fortune to spend, so want to make the best choice. I'm sold on the Qp, and with around £12 to £14k to spend I'm guessing a 2003 or 2004 car. I won't be doing a high mileage, probably under 3k per year, so running cost don't bother me too much.

But I've read so many stories of horrendous repair and servicing costs, and that scares the cr@p out of me. Plus I live in the far north of Scotland, which means many miles to reach civilisation never mind a Maserati or specialist repairer.

Any help and/or advice greatly appreciated!

Welcome. I'm sure some of the Quattroporte owners will be along soon to steer you in the right direction. All I can offer is to get an inspection done on any potential purchase as can save you a lot of trouble and money. Good luck in the search.

Hey. I also live a long way from any possible Maserati dealers or indys. I have run a 3200 GTA for over 5 years now and its been a mixed experience. I do a fair amount of work myself, and I have found a few local garages that are comfortable working on the car. It has cost a lot more than I had really expected to keep it running. I think the later cars like the QP are more sorted out, but some of the parts are real expensive and some of the jobs are very involved so a lot of time is needed making them expensive. I have probably spent as much as the car cost me in repairs in 5 years, possibly a little more?

Other side of the coin, had mine 2 1/2 years, basic service costs only, but belt service booked for June. They do seem to be a bit of a lottery.

Both Highlander and Stewart are both north of Inverness and both recently took the plunge into Maserati ownership. The closest specialist is PK Supercars in Edinburgh but there are good local garages in Aberdeen, Glasgow and Perth that I know of too. I wouldn't let the distance be the deciding factor. Perhaps once a year or so, I'd think of taking the car to Edinburgh but otherwise, a decent local can maintain it well.

staying further out from central belt does mean you think about, and worry about, all the "what if" scenarios every time you go out to the garage. all I can say is it adds to the spice of owning one of these beauties!:saifi3:
re the QP, have only test drove one so cannot offer any useful opinion. they are considered more sorted and if kept properly serviced should remain so. all the advice on getting an indy is sensible, unless like me you find one just back from a service and know what if anything is advised as needing done.
good luck and enjoy the hunt

I have/had the same concerns. Blindingly obvious but buy the best car you can get for your money. If there are issues when you get it you will fall out of love pretty quickly.
As everyone says get a proper independent inspection done and talk to people in the know about any particular car you see. Maser ownership is a small world ( I saw one GT in my trip North last weekend and covered about 600 miles but maybe 70/80 Porsches) and people on here or local Indie will probably know the car.
Speak to Phil/Nicholas at PK in Edinburgh and speak to Richard Grace who will try to find the right car for you.
You are probably looking at a long journey South to view so find out the points you want to cover before you waste time and money on a dog.
Just my recent experiences!

Your biggest problem is finding that Maserati will pull out of Scotland after the referendum! Italy don't deal with countries outside the EU!!!:lol2:

My twopence worth,
Spoke to PK at Supercqrs for some advice on softop problems, the chap spoke to me for at least 15 min, could not have been more helpfull, the help online is exceptional,Derek from Glasgow has just delivered free of costs sat nav disc to my daughter in Glasgow,my window winder went , repaired it myself as per guides online.

They are super motors, perhaps a lot of the problems are created by owners, eg clutches and tyres ,brakes but with normal driving and carefully purchase , enjoy..

Getting the feeling that everyone is genuinely there to help and offer advice where required. It certainly makes the prospect of Maserati ownership a whole lot more appealing when you know there's help available should things go wrong.
