Hi all.
Just acquired a 2017 Quattroporte.......well technically that's not strictly true, I bought it last year and blew the engine up! So after an '8 month on the garage ramp' false start. I'm pleased to say I've got it back this week, even if it is just to run the new engine in. Fingers crossed this one will last.
So here's a pic of my QP Taxi, and the second pic is of my Alfa, which is what got me into this whole Italian car mess in the first place:)7365973660

Welcome along and what a Great idea betting your popular for bookings.
Certainly beats Cobratwin who thought he was the Transporter.

Welcome along, Veloce. That certainly tops the fleet my usual taxi co has for airport runs.

Welcome!
What's the story on blowing up the old engine though?
Eb
I was flat out joining a motorway when it started to knock, I thought I was a dodgy injector but it had, as I later found out, started to take out a bearing. Still under warranty I took it to the dealer who said, because the previous owner had used the wrong oil Fiat would not uphold the warranty or confirm the problem. I drove the car back home and the bottom end blew out. It's apparently common on the VM Motori Diesel, FCA did a recall updating the oil from a 0w-30 to 5w-40 and did an gearbox reflash to avoid labouring the engine. It took 2 months to source the parts to repair the engine as many are no longer sold, it later turned out the block was damaged and they are unavailable. Maserati wanted £32k for a short block. Used engines are about £8k so I sourced a brand new Jeep Cherokee engine as the block is the same and had the sump and ancillaries from the old engine transferred across. It's been a bit of a nightmare!

Not your problem, surely. I assume they paid for the work?

That sounds awful. I ran a Jeep 2016 GC Overland diesel for 4 years from new, it always had 5w40 from main dealer servicing and always had noisy injectors that Jeep just said "that is how they are".... I always thought the engine sounded rough but sort of lived with it. I know of a Jeep GC owner who's engine on a 2015 sounded a bit rough one morning and the tanked on them later that day.. They then spent around 11k including labour replacing the unit at Jeep.. it was out of warranty and had a non main dealer service history post year 3 so FCA stonewalled them.. I would have parted the car out at the time as it was only worth about 17k so fitting an 11k lump seemed a bad move.
Hope you get better service from the rebuilt unit.

Yes they are noisy. I must say this new one is a little quieter especially once warm, but when pulling away off the line, for the first 2 seconds it sounds like an International Harvester!

Arent the Jeep engines essentially Fiat built truck engines? Think they are. I used to have a 2009 Jeep Cherokee ( Liberty) 2.7 CRD and it was like driving a taxi most of the time...but great off road though.

Blimey how did I miss this thread, sounds a total nightmare. Well done for fitting the Jeep parts. Not surprised that Maserati wanted 4 times the price for the same bits, they must think we are stupid.
