Hello and a Merry Christmas to one and all!

After wanting one for many years, I finally took the plunge and bought my first Maserati in January of this year - a 2004 MY 4200 CC Coupe in Verde Mistral. It's not my daily driver and given the travel limitations this year, I somehow managed to cover a total of 2000 miles in her and have enjoyed every minute - they truly are a lot of fun!

Having found and joined this forum in March I have spent time viewing the technical threads and found it a great source of information which has helped me rectify a number of faults and carry out some upgrades. So far I have replaced the oil pressure sender ( wouldn't have known it was broke if I hadn't read the info), coolant radiator and fitted an x-pipe with modified rear silencers. Being fairly hands on and also wanting to learn more about the car, I also decided to carry out my own servicing and mainentence and again the forum has been an invaluable source of information and have also had many LOL moments reading all the hilarious banter!

Although I have made progress with several things on the car, there has been an intermittent suspension warning light that has been a pain since buying the car and wonder whether the members here could offer some advice. The car has Skyhook and the red waring light with a car and down arrow running through it is on most of the time now. I read on here somewhere that the Launch x431 Pro V3 could read fault codes and booked it in with my local garage who had one but sadly this wasn't able to reveal the fault. So I booked a full diagnostic with the Maserati/ Ferrari MD in Exeter and the results were identified as a Lateral Acceleration Sensor C1041 Maximum Threshold Exeeded. The part number provided for the new sensor was M000232687.

I have found what I believe to be the offending sensor located behind the Air Box attached to the chassis leg which had P/N 175221 (Photo attached) and think I am right in saying this has been superceded by P/N 232687. If someone could confirm this is correct that'd be great? I have since fitted a (supposedly good) used sensor another 175221 but the waring light remains on. Could someone tell me please whether there are any other Lateral Acceleration Sensors on a 4200 Coupe other than the one behind the airbox that may be causing the fault or whether I have to have the light reset with yet another trip to the Main Dealers?

Best
Tony

Welcome Tony. Don't have the answer but sure another will soo appear.
Would start by searching eurospares parts diagrams as there could be more than one sensors

Hi Tony, welcome, sorry I can't help with your problem, what part of Devon are you from?

Welcome indeed.

There is only one lateral acceleration sensor, and you are right about the part numbers.

Don’t know about the reset of the light. It might clear with a battery reset (I.e: disconnect the battery for 30 mins). If not then yes, assuming your used sensor is good, you will need to have it reset.

Thank you. Yes I have looked at the diagrams and looks like only one Lateral listed but am not entirely sure...

Thanks for confirming there is only one and I have the right P/N's. I Will try a battery reset as not done that yet. Do you know whether their is a way to test the sensor itself?

I don’t know, but I would probably check the resistance between the terminals and see if there if a difference between your failed and used sensors.

Hi All,

ZEP kindly suggested I try a battery reset but sadly this hasn't worked, and also a resistance check which didn't appear to show any anomolies between other known working sensors.

Given the light used to come on and then go out by itself with the old sensor, I wouldn't have thought it needs to be plugged into a diagnostic to clear the light (appreciate it would if I wanted to clear the log on the ECU though) Could anyone confirm this theory please?

Any help greatly appreciated. :)

I didn’t pick up on that in your original post. So with the old sensor the light came on when you switched on the ignition, and then went out. Then it came on intermittently with the fault. The replacement sensor causes the light to stay on all the time?

Is that right?

Hi Tony, lovely looking car, that colour is fantastic. I’m also in Plymouth, look forward to seeing yours, there’s not many around here.

Hi Zep,
Sorry I may have confused things here. Basically with the original sensor, on start up the light would sequence and go off but occasionally come back on intermittently whilst driving. A quick on on off on the ignition would reset for a few days. This then happened more often until I had an mot and the test centre used a shaker deck ( to check the ball joints I'm told). After this the light stayed permently on so had the diagnostic and swapped out the sensor. This has made no difference and light still on.
Hope this makes sense?

Hi Matt,
Thanks. Yes I think the colour works well with the car. That said, they are such a great design I haven't seen a colour I don't like on them.
Nice to know I'm not alone down here. Do you currently have a Maserati yourself?
