My new rear tyres just dont look right to me, can anyone else with 20" wheels compare this with the amount of stretch that their rear tyres have? here are some photos of my rear wheels -the tyre size is 285x30x20 - the stock size and same as the previous ones, New tyres are Bridgestone Potenza S001's the old were Dunlop Sport SP Maxx...

The front tyres sit like this - which I sort of expected the rears to fit like...

I dont have a photo of the old tyre on the rim but you can sort of see it in this crop - the stretch doesnt look quite as pronounced...

Would look daft in a VW let alone a QP...looks like they put the wrong size on the rims.

Classic case of different manufacturers with the same spec'd tyres producing a completely different profile ! It happens more than you might think...?
Bung some spacers on and you're good to go ! Seriously though; Id fear for my rims. and that they might lose pressure rather regularly...

Strangely enough my vw friend is the one that really made me wonder... when a dubber says nice stretch, then yes... something ain't right!

Doesn't look right to me OEM. Different if you are going for stretch look. My QP wasn't like that on the old tyres or the new ones I put on.

I'm not so worried about air... more my total inability to park!

Even spaced, the stretch would be rather apparent.
The tyres were mail order, so can't just drive back in and ask them to try a different pair!

I think it looks like the stretch is accentuated by the rim protection strip to me. This can make the side of the tyre look a bit stretched.

What does it look like from the side?

From the side the sidewall slopes in toward the tread, where I would normally expect the sidewall to be vertical, the rim protection sits in board from the rim so offers no protection...

Everything is standard and I am after the standard OEM look and fitment - much the same as the front wheel looks!

If they are the same size as before/stock it can only be due to the fact it is a different tyre make/model. You may have difficulty going back to the fitter/supplier as they didn't do anything wrong if that is the case. This issue is common - lots of variation in side wall profiles between manufacturers. It can make a huge difference to rim protection and overall "square" look of the wheel when fitted.

I've got a pair of brand new 19" rears for the QPV in the shed for just the same reason. Can't remember the brand but were fitted as a get-home following a puncture (only ones in stock) and they looked just as daft as yours. All correct size, load rating etc but still changed them after a week for Continentals which look as good as the Pirellis (not a big fan) and seem to work fine.

285? Mine are 295 30 20.

Yours would be a little newer than mine, they went up to 295 on the later cars - I did consider sizing up, but I didn't think the extra width was worth the extra outlay... 285mm has to be enough for most people!!!

Maybe mine is a 58. You can never have too much rubber! Or is that just my fetish?
