New owner queries

Well, I have had my 4200 a week now. I am slowly getting used to it and the cambio corsa gearbox. Had a couple of questions.

When I lock the car on the remote the lights flash and the car is locked, though it is very sensitive and the slighest bump will trigger the alarm. Eg when I was washing it the alarm went off. If I hold the button down for 5-10 seconds it will beep but the lights will not flash. The alarm is not so sensitive this way. Is this normal?

When I am on an incline and in gear should the gearbox hold it before pressing the gas. Handbook says so, owner said the same, is it only in certain modes?

Last question. Handbook said to leave car in gear and not in N when turning off. Is this correct?

Sorry one more. The R toggle, after you have engaged R then pushed it forward and reversed what would happen if you forgot to push the toggle forward when reversing?

Thanks

Hi Brendan and congrats on your 4200!

Cann't help you regarding alarm, but i can help you regarding serious stuff, like Cambiocorsa settings...:

The first production of the 4200 had a hold hill mode:When incline, the car would not get back. If the previous owner has updated the gearbox software, then you don't have it anymore. I think the last GS and the MCV had it though.

About N or 1st when switching off:Yes, you MUST select 1st or Reverse. They are italian cars, this means, their handbrakes are cr@p. You don't want to find this beauty on a tree! An alarm will remind you that you have not selected gear.

Two more tips from my side:Be careful with the reverse gear selector, cause if damaged, you should pay a lot..Always slide it up, before bringing it back.

And the most improtant:Never use the auto mode! It will burn out your clutch!

Use the sport button as much as you can:It will improve clutch life, but also will improve your happiness driving this beast.

Hope this helps, feel free to ask more info.

It does no harm leaving it in neutral when turning off. I leave mine in neutral when in my garage, with the hand brake off, but then it can't roll on its own being flat. Certainly out on the road or car park, I leave in gear with hand brake on.
The R toggle is just a switch to engage reverse, once in reverse you don't have to touch it again.
If a late 4200 you can use the toggle to engage first, but mine being an early car can only engage first using the paddles.
Cheers.

Thanks guys. Just figured out how the Info Centre works, well I think I do... Know what you mean about the reverse toggle thing, apparently most of them are quite fragile. My manual says lift and push fwd yet Mark said just push fwd. Seem to of got the hang of it know though.

Holding the alarm button down, until it beeps, turns the internal sensors off. Good when there is strong winds, ferry, etc. It should not go off, when washing car. Possibly needs the sensitivity turning down, on alarm box.
You can only engage gear, with foot on brake pedal. It will not engage, with door open either!

I broke mine recently. Luckily, it was covered by warranty. I now handle the new lever with kid gloves.....

.......when I remember to.

1 Can must be at a complete standstill

2 Put car in neutral

3 Lift T lever vertically when in its furthest position forward in its slot and gently slide back slowly

Never seen a problem with leaving the car in neutral.

I actually never alarm my car, I just turn the key to lock it. Each to their own, but it bugs me (and others) when the alarm goes off. Not sure what difference a car alarm makes anyway - I've not seen anyone calling the police lately when a car alarm goes off, and if a thief wants that handbag lying on the passenger seat then he's going to have it.
