New owner in California

Hey folks: I just joined this site as I am a "new" owner of a 2005 4200 Spyder. I live in California and purchased the car from a dealer in Pennsylvania in July. The car only has 11,500 original miles and I am extremely happy about the purchase and the dealer that I purchased from. This is my second Mas as I previously owned, several years ago, an '06 GS also with low mileage. Since receiving the 4200 I have already taken care of the sticky button issue with Larry (Lorenzo). He did a great job and I have good pics if interested of the rats nest that was involved in removing the console and button array. It was actually very easy and looked worse than it was. I have had several other issues that were resolved with rebooting the electronics and my top which was out of sync but got that solved as well.
Anyway, good to be with this Forum and am looking forward to reading everyone's experiences with their cars.

Hey guys:
In reading threads on this forum it seems that most of the members live in the U.K.? Am I intruding where I don't belong? I am enjoying some of the terms and words that you use. Very "colourful". Seriously though, please let me know.
Thanks-Bruce

As long as you can get to Alton or the Ace Cafe before the end of the month you'll be accepted :p

Hi Bruce,

You’re definitely welcome here... a 4200 Spyder must be a great car to cruise round California in? Which bit of the state is home for you?

It’s customary for new owners to share a pic or two....

All the best

Totally welcome. To balance things out, I moderate the US 'equivalent' forum, although I'm based in darkest Essex :D

We're terribly inclusive over here, and, in my opinion, the level of technical knowledge is orders of magnitude greater.

A big warm welcome Bruce. Get some pictures up of your Maserati when you get chance as we would love to see more of her.

Welcome Bruce. However, I believe you're mistaken. Anyone called Bruce simply must be from Australia. Its like a law of nature and there are no known exceptions. So, Bruce. Now we have things restored to their natural order. We can start again.
Where in Australia are you from and which laws did your criminal ancestors break, to be shipped off to such a horrible place?:p

Apologies Bruce! Hadn't had my morning medication before I started reading your forum thread. That said, Cali + Spyder will win you no friends in this part of the world, where we play amongst rain, snow and sleet almost all year round. My advice would be to proceed with caution. Not mention that you live anywhere inside the 90000 Zip Code area. 58000 might be better to start off with initially. Perhaps you could work your way towards Cali over time, so as not to cause any ripples, hereabouts.

Anyhoo comrade. Take or leave my advice as you see fit. 'Leave' would be my suggestion. ;)

Very, very warm welcome to you Bruce. We're a very diverse bunch here, as you've probably worked out. And that is most definitely one of the forum's strengths. In fact, I sincerely hope the diversity of the forum continues to increase rapidly over time.
I live on the North Coast of Northern Ireland. Right next to the Giant's Causeway. If you ever visit and would like shown the well known and those places worth seeing, but known only to locals. I would be very happy to show you around. It helps remind me not to take it for granted. (that offer is, of course, open to everyone here)

I hope you have many, many miles of smiles with your new mistress and I'm very confident that you will! ;)

Well, I definitely think I'm going to like it here with you guys! I had to read a couple of the posts to my wife, who by the way is a Canuck from Montreal. I hope that puts me in better standing with the group. Now that I'm seeing with what I'm dealing with I must include a couple of horrible pics of the area and our nasty climate. BTW, I live in a small college town of San Luis Obispo (Cal Poly). It's about 90 miles above Santa Barbara on the Central Coast. Wine country! I'd love to know if any of you folks have been up this way. The only Maser that I've seen in the area is an '06 GS. We've made contact and are going to start a little coffee club for 2 soon.
I do appreciate the humor and welcome from you guys and look forward to further talks via this forum!
Thanks much
Bruce

Hmmmmm..........without Googling........can your wife pass the Canadian Citizenship Test?
It consists of one question. Name either of Bob and Doug's albums.
Assuming she passes and what true Canadian wouldn't.......we're all good ;)

San Louis Obispo.....looks like a perfectly awful place to live. I bet you can't wait to escape to somewhere
pretty......like Southside Detroit ;)

Both car and location look terrible I can see why you have joined here for some uplifting conversation :welcome1:

We spent some time in California back in 2017, after flying back from Hawaii to San Fran we picked up a hire car and spent best part of a week driving down the Pacific Coast Highway, even taking in an enormous detour due to the bridge being out at Big Sur, didn't want to miss a single mile so drove to the closure on both sides.

It went downhill after that as we spent the next 4 weeks doing R66 the opposite way to most starting as Santa Monica and finishing in Chicago

Andy, I may be 'doing' the PCH next Autumn, but was also tempted by Route 66. Is the latter a bit of a tourist trap? Had heard so, but only via one source.

Andy, the bridge you're speaking of is called the Pfeiffer Bridge. It was out for almost 2 years. My company actually helped rebuild that bridge as well as the huge mudslide just south of the bridge. It almost ruined the economy along Hwy 1 due to the shut-down. We ended up paving the road over the mudslide, hoping that the next rainy season won't wash that away as well. It's a beautiful route but very treacherous, as you found out.

Carpet in the garage, whatever next? When I were a lad we had one piece of straw between me mam, da and 17 brothers and sisters for wiping our feet on, and we'd use same piece of straw as bedding at night for all 26 of us.
