Andy, I may be 'doing' the PCH next Autumn, but was also tempted by Route 66. Is the latter a bit of a tourist trap? Had heard so, but only via one source.

Only if you let it be, there are some great places that are often overlooked and some of the scenery is amazing. It takes some planning up front but if you really want to do it I can lend you all the guide books which like the route some are better than others
