Hi

Just bought a 2008 Gran turismo off a friend - which has a few issues - need a bit of guidance as never
had one before - I pick things up easily as been fiddling with cars a long time (65 years old)

The story so far .....

I bought the car off a friend who was struggling to fix it and lost heart.

When I picked the car up he told me it had a driveshaft problem ( so far so good)

got it back to my garage and took the 2 recon driveshafts he had bought out of the boot
and started the strip down.

When took off the passenger side hub I could see why it was showing handbrake fault on dashboard
there were no brake shoes on it - started to think thats the problem - not !

NOTE a new wheel hub with speed senor in it fitted - cheap chinese off ebay

I was told the driveshaft need to be replaced to cure the horrible grating bearing sound

Once I got the driveshaft in on the passenger side (rhd ) and ran her up the road the noise was getting worse
so decided it must be the propshaft bearings - so did the research managed to get her on a friends two poster
so could get an idea if or which bearing it was.

Once we had her running on the lift in gear - my friend said it sounds to be coming from the diff - so he put the
screwdriver on the diff and said - sounds like theres no oil in it

so unscrewed the drain plug and let the oil out (plenty of oil in) as it was draining he said did you hear that
somethings dropped in the oil bucket - so hands in the bucket and out comes a chunk of gear about the size
of half a tooth ....

So managed to get a guaranteed diff off ebay breaker for £500 delivered -result !! The diff went in and ran as smooth as silk

NOW - the problem I need help with

The dash before starting just showed the parking brake warning light - now its lit up like a Christmas tree !!!

so had 2 people scan it (and charged) they said you need a Maserati capable scanner - so found a workshop that had one
and they scanned it with a full readout of a list of codes - I assume these all follow on from each other due to the work
we did

Can anyone throw a bit of light on this as to where to start first in eliminating the waring lights please

CODES on driving back from scan

C1313 Active - missing parking CAN message - NO symptoms
C1046 - Active - rear LH speed SENSOR - error invalid signal
C1036 - Active - Front LH speed SENSOR -error invalid signal
C1435 - Active - LONGITUDINAL sensor NOT calibrated - NO symptoms
U1713 - Stored - Parking brake CAN message fault - No signal
C1557 - Stored - Power management awakening unit - invalid signal
U1706 - ACTIVE-no communication with NFR - invalid signal

SCANNED ON A - MaxiSys Ultra version V5.50 scanner

Hope anyone can help

Alan - Durham UK

Have the codes been cleared or is this just the dump?

First get yourself an Autel AP-200 which is about £60 on ebay and will let you keep track of what's going on. Then clear everything and see what comes back.

None of these seem particularly terrifying, but there is some cost assuming they come back.

C1313 is probably a parking sensor failure but AP-200 will probably give a better description, on line searching indicates it may be TPMS
Possibly new bearings on the left, front and rear.
Longitudinal sensor is an accelerometer which is cheap and easy from memory
Sort the EPB. Have you got new shoes in? If so adjust so you can't turn then back off a few clicks so it moves freely. Try not to do a calibrationn.
Power management, no idea but I can imagine if it's been on a dodgy battery left for some time it'll probably sort itself.
U1706 seems like a Skyhook fault but more detail here

Welcome to the madness but we're here to assist.

You mention Chinese Copies of the ABS hubs.

They are useless and fail very early whilst also causing you lots of errors.

Not sure where you are, but I recommend talking to Matt of Sports Italia and owner of the forum... he keeps genuine OEM hubs in stock as they are the most common error/fail item on the GT and QP.

Good luck fixing the car.

Hello guys
thanks for quick replies

the scanner used was a MaxiSys Ultra version V5.50 scanner which a friend of mine ,he has had six gran turismos swears by and he is a top
performance guy that used to operate "swift motorsport"

Is it possible to use a multimeter to check if the new hub bearing speed sensor (if thats the term for the ring) has full continuity in its wiring ?

I adjusted the handbrake shoes up till just touching drum the very slightly backed them off a tiny bit.

Yes. But no idea if that will give you a good reading. If the scanner is so good, it'll give live data, and you can see what signals are being put out while driving. Which the AP-200 will do for you....

And have you still got a fault code?

Hi and welcome.

I would say looking at your print out you have two issues going on.

Power as in lack of it and failed abs sensors in your cheap Chinese wheel bearings.

Are both left hand front and rear the aftermarket bearings?

Hi Cat man

yes still got all the fault codes list at start of message

The guys that scanned it said they couldnt do it while driving with their scanner

I was advised by another friend of mine and Safrane that it is possible that all the codes
are being triggered by the cheap chinese wheel bearing i fitted

unfortunately I binned the old one or could have tried that on :(

I will see if I can pick up a used one off a breaker to try that on - he also advised using an
oscilloscope - which I will try to borrow or get someone who knows how to read its
results on the speed sensor

thanks for replies much appreciated - I will report back with progress soon - fingers crossed
it is all down to the sensor - as there was only a handbrake fault light when started

Not as all singing and dancing as they would think then. Just did this exact test with my AP-200

are being triggered by the cheap chinese wheel bearing i fitted

Entirely plausible, but a scan is pretty much the only way to be sure. Get a scanner. Really it will make your life soooo much easier.

he also advised using an
oscilloscope

Yes, that would work, but so much harder.

Hi Catman v2

I think they were so busy - not being up on scanners - if its printed out the fault codes - is it up
to a human to interpret them? or could the scanner pinpoint the fault that triggered them ??

didnt want to layout £thousands on a scanner I couldnt understand and not a lot of time to learn

Alan

I'm surprised that the wheel speed cannot be read via live data even on basic scanner and you only need to move the car a few meters at slow speed to see what's going on.

Hi everybody

Am going to test the cheap wheel sensor with a multi meter - seen how to do it on you tube to
check against the reading on the drivers side hub - at least that will let me know if the cheap one is working
or not -

will report back once carried that out

Al

Hi Catman v2

Really appreciate the offer but absolutely rammed at work and cant get away yet
its my busiest month this month - everyone decides to go ahead with their steel building
and wants it yesterday - whatever happened to planning ahead:worried1:

cheers Al

I agree with @CatmanV2 that for £60 the Autel AP200 is well worth the investment, I have one and swear by it. Not only will it read the codes but will allow you to erase them so you can then see if they are active faults that keep coming back, plus as he said it will allow you to view the live data for each hub so you can see what the ecu is getting.

Hi no just one side is the chepo one - will be checking them with a meter this week Al

Hi Guys

video on you tube shows how to check speed sensor on hub with a multi meter doing shortly and report back Al
Good luck, it depends on sensor type how easy it will be, and if it needs power to it to generate a signal. At least you have an original one you can use as a comparison.

Hi

I have put the multi meter on the lead from the new hub and getting the reading on the
pic attached - is the meter set to correct ohms ? as it shows the readout constantly

thanks in advance Al :conf1:
