New Maserati sports car spy shots

Hard to really see through all that camo but it looks much more like what I think a Maserati should be. Despite having a QPV I would like to always have a head turner supercar looking option in the range.

WRT electric cars I won’t be buying one unless the batteries continue to offer decent range when 10 years old. Otherwise ther isn’t any residual value or prospect of them becoming classics or collectibles.

If I’m still around when all you can buy is an EV I will be happily driving around in a classic combustion engines car of some sort.

As hunta already pointed out, this appears to be a mule being used just to develop the drivetrain.
I would imagine when launched the styling would still be similar to the Alferi conecpt.
However on the subject of styling, it seems as though Ferrari has run out of ideas with their latest effort - the Roma. To me that looks more like a next gen Maserati!!
That’s because it was, originally...

Not too keen on it in those snaps if honest, especially the lights. However, will hold off judgement until it's revealed, properly..

But you have just agreed...Hybrid...The big Supercar makers will continue with big capacity engines until it doesn't become viable or legislation makes it impossible for them to make these vehicles with the type of engines they do now and even now they are all looking or are building hybrid. They will all have a plan for an electric car even it they haven't said so yet....Porsche have one, Aston Martin working on a full electric Rapide. Think there will come a time that you may have to embrace or ride a bike unfortunately. What changed my mind on hybrid was driving a BMW i8. Lots of fun and bloody quick....It wasnt what I thought it would be like and I could live with one. I've been around track in a Tesla and didn't like it but that was more about no noise as all I could hear was the stone chips hitting the bottom of the car and the fact it would give all power after 1 lap.....Sure as each car comes out they will get better and better. Plus that was on track so sure they make more sense using as everyday vehicles. Shame Tesla can't make them look better as the design for me is not good looking. This is change and it a big one at that....It takes away everything we think we love about motorcars and its human nature to not embrace change but if we do we may just find that this is a way to keep our passion alive and still enjoy some great machines. Saw something on face book this week .....a chap took his Supercar out and said he got the thumbs up 3 times but got the w4nker sign 8 on his 30 mile drive.....Afraid we are becoming a minority.
Andy I agree Petrol combustion Hybrid is the future for supercars like the La Ferrari, where its still basically a NA V12 with the electric motor for added power. Lamborghini will be following this plan, so of course you will get the increase performance of combined power of the electric motor and combustion engine but you still have the screaming na v12 like in the La ferrari or the screaming na v10/v12 in the Aventador/Huracan replacements. My car ownership so far has been only based on pleasure, fuel/practicality etc have not come into the equation. But these new Maserati's are pretty bullet proof and this car is quite practical. Full only electric is something I will avoid for as long as it is possible. Then I look at my car ownership I am never driving the latest new most up to date car, eg its 2019 but I am driving a 2015. I always buy a used car. Unless they ban the past cars then we're all f_ucked.

BOOM!...from a reliable inside source:

I have it on good authority that the spy shot is the new Alfieri, Ferrari are working on the V6 motor now which will be 3/4 of the Roma engine with a different crank angle plus twin turbos etc.

Rear engine 2 seats. This in the back shed at Modena 2 years ago very much in mock up form. Even then although it looked like a fat 4C it had a narrow oval grill more maser than Alfa.

The mock up seen was grp in the raw so presumably that would have been from the mould which could be used for carbon but no idea if the Alfieri will be alloy or carbon but suspect based on the 4C experience gained, it’s carbon.

The Granturismo is being worked on as a matter of urgency so it can follow on in the same launch year again with the same V6 plus hybrid.

"...Ferrari are working on the V6 motor..."? I have read somewhere that Maserati released information stating the new engine is developed in-house and that it will be exclusive to the marque. Not true?

If it is “in house” and “unique” it’s just one more nail in the coffin. Just the sort of thing that killed SAAB. Fit the Alfa V6 and save millions.

I don't disagree (even though the example of SAAB is not very fitting inasmuch its failing was not engine related). I just pointed out that Maserati's communication has suggested an in-house developed engine (range), not an adaptation of the Alfa V6. Also, the Ferrari-Maserati supply contract is supposed to end in a few years' time, so I don't see the logic of involving Ferrari in the development of the new engine.

What could make a lot of sense, of course, would be to develop a new engine with potential uses outside of Maserati's model range; for example, in Alfa Romeo's top models, and possibly even some other FCA-PSA cars. I don't think a Maserati-only strategy makes much sense. The obvious historical precedence is the quite successful V6 (the C-114) developed for the Citroen SM and the Maserati Merak/SS, but also used in the Ligier JS2 and the Maserati Quattroporte II.

Ooh! Motor show unveiling in 2020, deliveries 2021, or are we looking at a more distant horizon?

I would say adapt what you have as we will all be electric in 10 years time so why invest in old tech (as much as it pains me to say)

I think there's time for another petrol model yet. Electric infrastructure etc will take 10+ years to get to the point where the majority of car owners are willing to convert. Not to mention the inconvenient truth about if there's enough electricity to charge all these millions of vehicles.
If I were Maserati, I would get another V8 GT sorted ASAP. It'll easy have a life of 10+ years. Keep the brand going and provide some income. (And give us something to lust after!)
