New Maserati sports car spy shots

I suspect.... and that’s all it is, suspect.... that what will emerge here is something that started life as the Alfa 6C. With Alfa supposedly dropping the new models that everyone wants, to concentrate on SUVs, they have already started work on a sports car. Then with the new Granturismo following shortly after this, they won’t want the 2 cars competing with each other (ie both 2+2 front engined GTs) This is why the Alfieri has been dropped.
We’re going to see a 2 seat sports car here lads

I knew, it... If you stand somewhere long enough, a sensible answer will eventually turn up. Good work that man.

I'm amazed at you naysayers, with your little Britain style "I don't like it" responses. The facts are that it will end up being a pretty car, it will not be as fast as a Ferrari but it'll be no slouch, it will cost less than a Ferrari, and it's finally something new from Maserati.

I don't personally see much to dislike from that list.

Totally agree, except I think it could easily be as fast a some Ferraris. Power and speed seem easy these days. QFog V6 plus electric power I can see 600bhp easily :p
....And can you see Agnelli and co fancying sticking one in Ferrari’s eye since they flogged it? I can :D

This is the best news from Maserati for years.......Its a sports car so we should rejoice. Even if its electric, hybrid, V6 or V8 I really don't mind as long as its great to drive and look at as lets face it the current range doesn't hit the mark in any way or form......Great news this.

600 bhp is not ground breaking for Maserati, as they already achieve these numbers. The current maserati ferrari 3.8 v8 twin turbo has 530/710 nm torque in the Quattroporte and 590bhp in the Levante trofeo. With a ecu tune on this engine your into 600 plus bhp and 800-900 nm torque for the Quattroporte and trofeo. Hopefully its not just a rebadged 6C.

And you know...If it is all electric I am at the stage it wouldn't bother me....Things are a changing and I am sure there will be some brilliant electric cars coming out over the coming years so I'm not fighting it any more and time to embrace I think.....Yes you don't get the noise but I am pretty sure that they will have to pipe some noise in with a change to legislation ..... quiet is not good for road H&S.....Every electric or hybrid sports car I've been in has been blisteringly quick.....Yes we can go on about soul etc. but its coming....You can either sit and cry in your beer about the passing or embrace and still have some fun....Wonder what conversation we will be having in 10 or 20 years time....

it looks to me like the Alfieri is destined to be an all electric car, and this car here will be an Alpha based hybrid to bridge the gap both from Alpha backing off sports cars and any time lag in the new electric Alfieri appearing. I actually think all of this is pretty exciting, and a sign that Maserati will not just get lost in the new world. Could be wrong and the v6 hybrid here will have a different body to these pics but that would make sense in my head.

It will not be an all electric BEV - not this car... Maserati/FCA said that the GranTourismo which will arrive 2021/2022 will be a BEV

Therefore in this car at worst we can expect a hybrid/PHEV with a V6.

I am holding a little hope that there will be a V8 version but perhaps deluded - it all depends on how much CO2 the group emits as a total. Toyota has enough hybrid sh!t boxes out there to release new Lexus' with stinking V8s that only do 20mpg (e.g. LC500) - not sure if FCA can manage the same thing.

I am 26 and I will never embrace it. F1 Ross Brawn said in the future there will always be room for hybrid petrol combustion engines. If your rich the top tier brands like Lamborghini and Ferrari will continue to offer new combustion engines. Of course used market will still have all the past cars. Lamborghini is going to petrol naturally aspirated v10 and v12's with hybrid for added power over the next decade plus with their Huracan and Aventador replacements. Ferrari will continue to have the v12 na as well in there line up. If you want to embrace electric just buy a disgusting Tesla. I am from Aus/Switzerland (born in uk but have not lived there in 20 years) so I don't know how strict UK will get but hopefully it will not be problem for me as I will not be living there.

Does it matter? If it's light and nimble it'll be sparky as **** with 600 bop.

It does not matter of course for a road car. I am just saying on paper its not ground breaking power for Maserati as they already have done it with the mc12 and the current generation. I enjoy the rwd 530bhp/710nm torque in my car and can barely get to the limits unless I go to a track or the autobahn which I have not yet. I was thinking of the ecu tune as its tempting given the low cost and power gains, but I am waiting till after the service to decide.

As hunta already pointed out, this appears to be a mule being used just to develop the drivetrain.
I would imagine when launched the styling would still be similar to the Alferi conecpt.
However on the subject of styling, it seems as though Ferrari has run out of ideas with their latest effort - the Roma. To me that looks more like a next gen Maserati!!

But you have just agreed...Hybrid...The big Supercar makers will continue with big capacity engines until it doesn't become viable or legislation makes it impossible for them to make these vehicles with the type of engines they do now and even now they are all looking or are building hybrid. They will all have a plan for an electric car even it they haven't said so yet....Porsche have one, Aston Martin working on a full electric Rapide. Think there will come a time that you may have to embrace or ride a bike unfortunately. What changed my mind on hybrid was driving a BMW i8. Lots of fun and bloody quick....It wasnt what I thought it would be like and I could live with one. I've been around track in a Tesla and didn't like it but that was more about no noise as all I could hear was the stone chips hitting the bottom of the car and the fact it would give all power after 1 lap.....Sure as each car comes out they will get better and better. Plus that was on track so sure they make more sense using as everyday vehicles. Shame Tesla can't make them look better as the design for me is not good looking. This is change and it a big one at that....It takes away everything we think we love about motorcars and its human nature to not embrace change but if we do we may just find that this is a way to keep our passion alive and still enjoy some great machines. Saw something on face book this week .....a chap took his Supercar out and said he got the thumbs up 3 times but got the w4nker sign 8 on his 30 mile drive.....Afraid we are becoming a minority.

Yes it's a 4c mule according to Pistonheads.

Old, 2015 but they had to start somewhere. The shape fits, side vents, roof. I expect to see this but in a more modern frock.

I also believe that if the Modena factory are tooled already to build 4C’s it will be a composite mid-mount in that fashion.
