Great news in this Brexit uncertain world, Maserati have replaced the gear knob on the Levante. One less thing to worry about and, of course, more chance of being in Drive rather than Reverse.

Indeed, in these hard times this is the sort of good news story that will cheer most people up.

Or being crushed by your own car... is the old shifter the same common part on the Jeep which caused the death of Anton Yelchin?

Interestingly the wrongful death lawsuit was settled earlier this year for an undisclosed sum... Beyond the recall they did I imagine this would massively motivate FCA to do a redesign https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/amp....ttle-jeep-lawsuit-over-star-trek-actors-death

This has been nagging at me. Why do you always have to go through reverse to select drive?

Every auto I've ever seen.

I thought it was to freak out the driver behind in a manual who has never driven an auto, when the reversing lights flick on for the briefest moment at the traffic lights.

I can claim to have never owned an auto, and proud of it too !
Whenever I have seen reverse lamps illuminate on the car infront whilst queued at lights or a level crossing or whu, I have pretty much always thought the car in front had a muppet at the wheel, and panicked quietly that they are about to reverse into me...! :D

Why would anyone put an auto into P (park) whilst at the lights etc?

If you are worried about auto 'creap' move it one notch to N and put the handbrake on? Or foot on the brake and leave it in D.

After the recall it now goes automatically into park on opening the door. Which was fun when I had laser alignment done. They had to leave a mech in the car on the ramp...!

I've never noticed that. I don't think I've ever opened the door with it not in park.

The knob looks like the one from the Giulia. Shame they didn't nick the engine as well ;)
