Yes Zep the car just suddenly ‘loses it’ when I’m pottering around below 30 mph. There is absolutely no stutter or misfire. Simply all response to the accelerator pedal ceases and I have to idle to the side of the road, floor the pedal and it comes back. Yesterday the pedal response returned immediately but on another occasion I pumped the accelerator several times for up to 8 seconds with no pedal response and then at the 8th second the engine roared back and I could continue.
It could be very nasty indeed if it happened while I was entering a junction/ roundabout.

get it over to McGraths - they are in Hertfordshire

Not sure what long standing sediment this fuel fix people are referring to but I'll bet my annual salary there's nothing in your fuel tank of an unwelcome nature.
Thanks - the only thing that makes me still wonder about fuel is the car had only done 11,500 miles at the time of purchase last year. It's a 2011 model (I added the black Neptune wheels) and from the MOT record in some years it did as little as 200 or 300 miles and in one year it did zero mileage. So there has been lots of standing around being unused over the years. Although I now accept this is much more unlikely in the light of the helpful comments provided here.

Hi Devon boy yes I am only 8 miles from McGrath's in a village near Hemel Hempstead and right after the car was delivered I got McGrath's to carry out a post-purchase inspection. I have spent approaching £10,000 through McGraths on fixing issues with the car which the selling garage refused to countenance, so it will be going to court when I finally get some time. McGrath's are aware of the intermittent loss of response to the pedal and the boot full of water they were the ones to run the diagnostic but it came up with nothing at the time and they have already drained the area under the boot once but it fills up every time it rains. McGraths are booked solid until May but Zep has just very kindly offered his own diagnostics to me! - which is certainly a wonderful gesture to someone who has only turned up on this forum for the first time the other day!

Fuel would make it cough and splutter. It's not fuel. It'll be an electrical issue as I mentioned way up there. I know about elastictrickery, I do ;)

That's it then CatmanV2 I am now disavowed of the notion of crud or water in the fuel - which is surely the purpose of this (superb!) forum - highly useful advice from the experienced and wise. Nice one. I have let it go.

I am told Bell Classics in Markyate have a top Ferrari/ Maserati tech - might give you another option depending on availability.

Wouldn’t be surprised if I “tripped over” a fellow owner if he is that local :D

I can give thumbs up to Bell Sport & Classics. Their technician is superb and has knowledge back to 3200 and beyond. Well worth popping in for a nosey too.

To give a clue on the boot leak, lay some tissue paper around the boot floor and then get your hose out!

I haven't looked up the specifics, but careful you don't run out the clock on submitting court papers.
And a very warm welcome btw. Courtesy of the capitalist running dogs at British Gas.

Regardless of technicalities- you should definitely refer all the issues you are having to the dealer as they will always have the right to fix faults.

Hi Chendars and warm welcome to rebel house, Wouldnt be the first time ive been wrong , but my immediate thoughts lean towards the Maf sensor , perhaps take it out and give it a clean .......... but it should throw a code I think hopefully Zep will come up with something definitive
