Hi all, I just about to buy my first Maserati, hopefully a 4200gt cambiocorsa with c.42k miles on the clock. I have been on the outside looking in for a while and now the time feels just right.

I’ve test driven the car and had an independent specialist review which highlighted a couple of small issues which have been corrected. There is a small amount of paintwork correctlion; a couple of small dinks on the doors and front stonechips. Biggest problem is a small dent on the rear passenger side wing below the rear light and corrosponding mark on the rear bumper. Price has been adjusted accordingly and my own specialist will carry out the repair.

So wish me luck, here we go. Surely it cannot be anymore trying than my Bentley

Welcome to the forum!

Check the heater matrix... I had a "specialist" inspection when they missed it entirely. They only focussed on what they Could see on the surface I.e. body work but imo mechanical issues cost more to put right

Thanks fifty, I have asked for the matrix to be checked, it’ll be interesting to see what comes back!

Thanks Hurricane52. I am hopeful that it all works out well. I have had my Alfa Romeos and Fiat Coupe turbo’s, a large number of Porsches, Jaguars and a few Bentleys...nothing has excited me as much as the Maserati. Possibly I know not what I am letting myself in for

Early 4200s all had the sloping antenna.

Rust on the boot is likely to be the cause of the marks on the rear bumper.

Given its age make sure all the suspension bushes have beeen looked at.

Thanks Safrane. The marks on the rear bumper are definately a reversing ‘whoopsie’. There is a small dent on the rear panel just below the rear light plus corrosponding light damage on the rear bumper plastic.

I have no doubt there will be rust in there somewhere. I have a tame bodyshop who are used to my Bentley so they know the true meaning of hidden rust timebombs!

I plan to go around and replace all of the replacable bushes as a matter of course (regardless of which car I buy) I’ve just had a full bush set replaced on my Jaguar XJR and the transformation is utterly amazing. The Maserati will be subject to a full and ongoing refresh.

Welcome. Nice looking car, hope all goes well. Happy days ahead :)
Yes I hope so Allan. As long as I can getthe deal I need which will leave me a few £000 in the pot to put right those items that I have missed. I am really looking forward to this one

Welcome. Sounds like you are on the road to sorting her out. Plenty of wise owners on here to help you when needed. A few nutters too!

Nice looking classico.
Hope it has the original gearbox ecu firmware and has not be reflashed.
The original is nice and 'raw' with lovely gearbox blips on downshifting (absolutely awesome with an exhaust change), whereas the 'upgrade' lost the blips and became more 'soft'.

Welcome, all the advice so far is valid and looks like a fine 4200, you are going to love it. There are many things that can go wrong, but that’s the same with any car, so be positive and enjoy it. I must say if anything should go wrong there is no better support than on this forum, so many experienced and helpful members, always ready to assist.

Well your biggest leap of faith is in allowing your sanity and liver near this lot! As for the car, you seem to be very well informed and looking at ensuring a nice car stays on the road for many years yet.
Welcome!
