It’s just that jonjeffryes asked would fitting a new battery solve the problem, and I believe the answer is no. If the garage replaced the bulb no problem, but if they did not an intermittent problem will come back, he needs to find the root cause.

That’s what I meant by as above - I agree with you :)

You say the car passed the test today, do you mean it passed the MOT or that the MIL is now lighting up during the lamp test when you turn on the ignition. Does your MIL now illuminate and then go off again ? Replacing the battery would not rectify a non illuminating MIL bulb.

It passed the MOT test today (I only know as it came up as passed on the MOT history) Th mil has to light and then extinguish for the MOT so was more a nquestion of curiosity before I go back and ask the vendor. i know they fitted a new battery today hence the question

Ok slight misunderstanding on my part I think, here is the code from the MOT failure:

  • Engine MIL inoperative or indicates a malfunction (8.2.1.2 (h)) Whatever has caused the mil seems to be fixed. I will ask in the a.m.

I suspect the light was illuminated hence the fail. Then they likely cleared the codes and/or did a battery reset. It may well be the light will come on again depending on what the issue is that caused it to light in the first place. Could be a myriad of things, needs a code reader when it happens again. Does it have an aftermarket exhaust?

Yes I think you are correct. I am now discounting the blue car unfortunately as there are a number of question marks arrising. Firstly it has had the o/s/f lower wishbone has been replaced, but the n/s/f has not and on the MOT advisory the n/s lower balljoint has some play. Also, there is only one key, the second cannot be found. At that point I am out.

So, Optimum cars in York has a 55 plate with 65k miles, full history, all keys, just serviced and fresh mot with no advisories. Top end of the budget for a 4200 but it comes with 12month warranty so, I’m in again....subjrct to the front subframe being solid and clutch being good.

I also noticed that, even went and had a look at mine. Its not just the angle of the photo, sits proud and the gap is excessive. Warrants a question or two.

Have you contacted Richard Grace , his cars are always top notch, there won't be any wonky bonnets or dodgy wishbones on anything he offers you.

If he hasn't got anything in stock he usually knows of cars that might be suitable , sometimes not even on the market yet

As a newbie (and I am sure I will regret admitting this) I do not know Richard or how to contact him, but I sure would like to

Richard Grace Cars. He's in a faraway land called Cheshire. If that just feels too remote try Nareman at Nuvola London.
Ok just googled and then came back and saw your post, thank you. I will be contacting Richard when I return from Europe, assuming I do not get a satisfaory supply from Optimum regarding the bonnet

I bet that was because the bonnet was un-latched , ready for the video / photo shoot , at least that’s what they will say .

Jon,

I’m here! Thanks to those who’ve recommended my services. I don’t have any 4200’s in or imminent but I do know the car in question. Sold it before, give me a call, numbers are on the website.

To me the front bumper looks as though it has been painted.
I initially thought it was just the light but in every photo it's a different shade, especially when compared to the front wings adjacent to the wheels.
Maybe that may explain the lifted bonnet?
