(Just realised I'm replying to a really old thread, although with great revival above, far more interesting than my soap box post);)

I competed in National Championship 10 & 25 mile TTs, and 4k Pursuit.
Sold a lot of bikes and kit.
These days I use a 1930s inspired Path Racer and a bespoke Jack Taylor with Campag and Pete Matthew's wheels (Ex Robert Miller for those that remember).
Must get out more, although I find the courtesy (lack of) and road-craft of many cyclists leaves a lot to be desired; I don't really want to be associated with that.64603

Can't understand why people spend so much money to acquire the most frictionless bike possible in order to get fit. Counter-intuitive? Discuss.

Getting fit and competition are two different things, but I get your point.
The great thing about my old school bike is that I can ride it with jeans and t-shirt without looking daft.
Where I live (very hilly) people can't believe that it's possible to get up the hills without lots of gears. I like a bit of a challenge, it's not that hard if you put your back into it!

Racing is one thing and I understand that and living in the Surrey Hills gives me laugh at the MAMILS. Also reminds me of when I overtook one on his superexpensive going up Queens Road in Bournemouth... I was on my Pepsi max special (cost £1.50, won in a raffle) on my way back from work. That got me fit and the heart pounding.
