.... no one should buy a Maser Spyder like this without testing one along an imperfect road, as the degree of scuttle shake is sufficient to spoil the experience for many people ...

This, however, I would agree with. With the caveat that suspension setup can make a world of difference. Have recently had my geometry re-aligned to be more neutral. Principally, to reduce inner edge tyre wear. A welcome side benefit has been reduced shake.

I would have a Spyder if they did n't have those roll over hoops . They look horrible and spoil the whole car

I don’t mind the rollover hoops. I all also like the hoods on the anniversary model, though I know many other don’t.

But overall, the car looks a little short and tall to me. A Spyder should be more sleek - longer and lower. For example, the 355 Spyder has better proportions to my eyes. (Not that that stopped me buying two 4200 Spyder...)

I like the short wheelbase on the car and I think it looks as good or better with the hood up. The later the car the better and that's why there's a big differential in prices. Plastic rear screen to glass and big improvements for the 2005 model onwards and then the GranSport at the end of the era! I like mine as it's happy pottering around but wind it up and boy it goes.

It is a facelift yes. Which, in addition to cosmetics, had a number of mechanical improvements over earlier models.
Some of which resulted in less scuttle shake. But doesn't eradicate completely - which is just one of the "joys" of open top driving
Someone put it quite nicely on another thread recently in that convertibles are better suited to a more serene driving style. Which is not for everyone.

They should have fitted a T bar like my Stag for zero scuttle shake!

Someone in the US made reference to a brace on the underside - but it was a bit vague.
A Flyin' Miata variation from memory.

There's a 'brace' that goes over the torque tube tunnel, isn't there? About 4 inches of tin foil?

He touched the grass/rumble strip, thats what took him off.
Exactly, and no space to correct as the guard rail was right there. Poor chap. I did something similar on my last track day, but slower and enough space to correct on. Stones and dust flew!

18 months in and no regrets buying my car, love the look of the car, replaced the release bearing and pilot bearing(manual gearbox), imho looks far more classy than any German convertible but I'm biased.

I've had my 02 Spyder for 5 years now and no problems. These cars have a very reliable engine and transmission and that can't be said for the 2000's Porsche's when they were making the transition to water cooled engines. Yes, the CC can be a costly pain but mine is a manual so no problems there. At current prices these cars are the buy of a lifetime. I admire the design because they have everything that's needed without anything superfluous.

Well...with any luck....you'll get your Brexit issues sorted, get the stirling back to where it was against the Aussie dollar 4 years ago, and I'll put 2 Gransport Spyders on the boat to your shores...only adding to the surplus. Let's hope someone clears these numbers out in the meantime. BUt from what I can see....it is not just spyders, it is not just maserati - it seems to be all decent (?) marques simply are not selling, be it UK or Aus. We have more Gransports for sale here than in the UK, despite taking about 20% of the original delivery volume. To sell a car nowadays...it must have the words 'JDM turbo' sitting in the description...

Supra JZA80 2JZ-GTE V160 - those words now fetch about the same price as a GS Spyder. 5 years ago, you could buy 5 such Supras for 1 such GS
