My 3200GT and me

Hi I've already posted a few questions and the members on here are amazing and very helpful!

I bought my 3200GT last month and I'm delighted with it. Its got a few things I need to sort out but nothing major. I've missed having a car that I can spend some time improving and fixing things as I have recently owned newish cars that just work. I've owned many Italian cars in the past: Fiat 128, Alfa Giuilietta 1.6, Alfa 33, Alfa 155 V6, Alfa 159Ti Sportwagon, Alfa GT 3,2 V6, Lancia Delta, Prisma, Monte Carlo, Beta, 2012 Delta, loved them all, but I always wanted a Maserati, I recently read an article in Auto Italia about the 3200GT and saw the Wheeler Dealers episode and that made my mind up that I had to have one.

I live on the amazing Isle of Skye so its not the ideal place for Maseratis as the roads are pretty rough and we suffer from issues getting parts delivered to the island but there are ways around this if you are inventive.

I'm planning a road trip to the Geneva Motor Show for next year in my 3200GT taking the same route I used in 1989 to go to the Monaco Grand Prix, but this time stopping in Geneva to spend time with my daughter.

Cheers

Stuart Munn

Welcome. Some excellent driving roads up there, I'm in Angus and owned my 3200 for about six years. You are in the best place to have any questions you may have with the car.

I'm thinking about garaging it over the winter, I'll see if I can rent a space, failing that it will have to be an outdoor cover. We get a lot of rain and wind but not much snow.

Welcome Stuart, hats off to you , great cars, some people struggle with a specialist on their doorstep, the Isle of Skye takes that to a whole new level! :) Enjoy the beast..;)

Hi Stuart, and welcome, I am up your way periodically I have some business in Inverness, and there is another owner in Inverness too. Car looks great, and as long as its not your only car the parts will be ok, there are odd parts not available any more but I doubt being on Skye will make much difference there! The roads on the west of Scotland are some of the finest in the right weather for a Maserati, a great choice.

Lovely car as others said.
Parts delivered is the same as anywhere in the Highlands. Apart from getting stung because we are "overseas" by couriers.
My issue was servicing the car and doing any work. I couldn't do work on it myself and nearest Indie at that time was Edinburgh. No idea where closest is now. Possibly Manchester?
I gave up on the 4200 and stuck with the Biturbo which my local garage can service no problem. If you are handy with the tools then that will be a help.
Maybe see you around over the summer. Enjoy the car.

I’m in Glasgow. I also have a laptop with diagnostic software and cable for anyone to use in Scotland just let me know if anyone needs to borrow it. :)

As for service work there is no specialist dedicated to Maserati now in Scotland but these cars are actually pretty easy to work on especially if you need any information this is the best place to ask. A very good mechanic that’s not scared to tackle jobs would be fine working on it.

Good luck. Looks a beauty. Cracking colour!
