Found by 30 year old Momo anotomic gear knob I had fitted on my '91 Alfa Romeo 33S Permanent 4! So decided to fit it to my M140i.
Polished up the lower collar from the original black anodised finish, and bought a new leather gaitor from J F Customs on ebay. This came with the plastic retaining frame, excellent quality (real smellie leather) and only 20 quid.
Necessary as the original BMW knob is attached to the original gaitor.
Well chuffed.
I very much dout if you bought a new gear knob today, you would be fitting the same knob to a car in 2051!

I contacted JF Customs about a new gaitor for the 42, they said they didn't do one but if I could send them one for a template they would do it FOC for me in exchange for them acquiring the template for future sales. They where great to deal with and did a great job!20210905_091652.jpg

Their quality is 100% and puts the original BMW gaitor to shame in my case.

Yes that definitely needs some polish. Or something.

Mrs C's knob has a nasty rough flaky bit. I'm thinking of getting a new model unless someone has a better idea?

It gets a little crusty around the edges but it's still usable ;)

I think you’ll find that Conaero is a lot more than 30 years old. Does that mean he wins? Just asking for a friend. :D

Well, ti be honest, you have to be very careful where you apply your grip or it can be quite painful. She says she doesn't notice, but she has smaller hands. Sometimes I find myself sucking my teeth quite hard.

Totally agree!...........I firstly had one made up by a local leather shop for £50 but I found the leather was a bit thin and the stitching quality was a bit 'iffy' so just keep this one as a standby.

I'm gutted... couldn't find my knob in the loft, and a quick search of my emails suggests I sold it a few years back... sigh.

Imagine a pristine version of one of the below... the feel of comfortable, moulded leather against your left hand...! Leather stitching of course, for your pleasure.
