Surely this is such good value, and deprecation free, that spending a bit more on fuel hardly matters. The overall ownership costs over a year or two could still add up favourably, all with the bonus of being back in a real car with a proper engine and soundtrack to match. Come on you Maser-free chaps, step up to the plate!

So at c20k miles PA it's about an extra £2k per year on fuel if it does 25mpg compared to a tedium diesel at c50mpg... or roughly the cost of two Starbucks per day.

I get 55mpg average out of the C250 and it is rather fun on its sports suspension And I still enjoy driving it. Its a great daily drive that has been 100% reliable for 40,000 miles. Yes I would love the QP but it’s not just fuel it’s the 2k clutch that will be needed soon....the service costs and insurance.....I pay £280 for insurance and 200 to 400 for a service. You could double all that at least as well. I would imagine a QP would love doing 20k a year but my wallet maybe not. Nice thought though Pete.

If at this point, a car well known to the forum with a brilliant spec, painstakingly cared for, serviced by Av engg. for last two years and complete service history with all bills and work documented, does not find a buyer in Maserati's most ardent fan base, the dead market would be proven beyond doubt!

might be in better shape than my own QP, so it is tempting. Adding maserati number 4 would be a tough sell at the kitchen table.

Sorry to hear this.

If I didn't have 9 cars including the XJL I would have had it Sommi. I do have bids out there on a CLS55 and a 4200 as well though so hoping in a way that they all don't come home!

I know this is going to be taken as being really harsh but if it’s not sold it’s too expensive.

It’s an 85000 mile rusty QP that needs paint, wheels and a new clutch, it’s worth about £6k.

If you want to sell it you either need to get the repairs done or lower the price.

Not unlikely coincidental that all this Brexit stuff started around the time that the **** starting falling out of many areas of the car market.

This would have sold easy 3-4 years ago. Times have changed.

It was part of the reason I sold my QP as felt they were susceptible to falling further. Also fancied an X351 XJ instead as saw they were criminaly cheap.. Cost me £2k to change out of a 2007/57 QP Exec GT with 4.2 V8 with 395 horses into a 2010 XJL SuperSport with 5.0 SC V8 and 510 horses. Glad I did I think.

I think the XJL SS has cost me much less to run in the same time if I had kept the QP.

I like those big jags too and they do shift, so it made sense.
The QP moves me though, which is an entirely different kind transportation. Even just sitting on the driveway, I can hear music and feel the sun beaming on my face.
How does the XJL drive, only been passenger in one way back at launch.

Driven the car , and was part of all the additions when she was under Enzo's custodian ship , it was awesome especially after we had organised the Larini system , havent seen the car since so i cant vouch for it, but it was one really special QP , and one of the best colour combo's on the market , my suggestion unless you want to permanently wear a cricket box , is to use it for another year , and see the how the climate is once all this dust has had time to settle

Thanks. The reason for purchasing this QP was as you described it - unique and very special indeed. I have decided as I cannot part with it easily so will enjoy it for another year or two. MOT is this week and then when the clutch wears out I will get that done too.

Obviously once all work is done it won't be sold for the price it was offered at now.

I have a source if they ae still there for re -furbishing of clutch plates, they specialise in doing lambo clutch plates so they know what they are doing , but its something i never quite got round to evaluating properly before i started working away , but from memory the cost saving was considerable

That's useful. Thanks.
The estimate for new clutch is about 3k from AV Engineering. What sort of saving is possible?
I am in Surrey and if it's sensible and not north of England, I can give it a go.
Please PM me details if you can.

Surely the time taken and specialist tools (computer thing) needed to change a clutch preclude using anything other than guaranteed OEM parts?

I was genuinely tempted by the last of the line XJs. Alas not an R but there were some truly ridiculous finance offers on the diesel (£0 down... £300/month... still regret it). But when I sat in it it felt like a tomb. It was the same with the outgoing 6 series; in the fanatical search for track dynamics in cars that aren’t track cars, designers have been reducing window sizes to reduce weight that far up in the chassis to mitigate raised pedestrian safety body shapes. Means cars now feel much more cramped than they actually are. Really put me off. That and the inevitable bollocking if I took it home
