Why is LPG a waste of time?
Surely not if you do the miles and the vehicle you wish to do those miles is a bit thirsty.
Never had one myself, but my sister had a Jeep Cherokee for years ran on gas, and also a good friend V8 Rangie also. Both total converts on the merits of LPG.

Oh I enjoyed mine on the Alfa. I think a significant issue was that I had to fuel it everyday. Tank range on LPG was about 200 ish miles. And stations still seem pretty rare (although I've not looked for one for 6 years)
Thinking more, struggling to see where a tank would go in the GT without having either a 10 minute range, or no boot at all :)

Hmm... how about an Alfa GT? 1.5k for a scruffy one, 2.5k gets a tidy one, 40+ mpg italian...

Or there's my one! Q2 with all options and LSD, clutch is slippy,

What is your budget C ?

I think certainly below 10.

I think short list right now is
XF
CLS320
C Class
E Class (Know nothing about the range or engines of either of them)
Some kind of Audi (maybe A5 but I know nothing about the range / engines. Just know I loved the A8 we had)
Mrs C has vetoed a BMW
Something else.

It's all simple :D

I’ve had a few converted V8 Range Rovers and a factory fitted Volvo V40 in the past. Of the three, the Volvo was better, but all three had reliability issues associated with the lpg that were never resolved. The Volvo was new at the time, so not down to old age/lack of maintenance etc. First Rangie had single point aftermarket kit fitted which had constant blowback issues despite bing into specialists numerous times. Any fuel saving (which wasn’t much) was soon eroded by the maintenance costs. The second Rangie had a multipoint system fitted. Considerably better than the single point system, but if the car sat unused for a week or two, ran rough on lpg for about 30 miles until it finally sorted itself out. It was fine on petrol. Again, several visits to specialists to sort and remained unresolved. The economy saving is a lot less than you’d think. Real world drop of 10-15% on lpg compared to petrol, with a corresponding loss of performance too. Loss of spare wheel space on the Volvo and P38 Rangie and loss of half the boot space on the Classic made it not. Worthwhile. All three cars were covering about 20k miles per year, so in regular use.

I think either keep the GT and just put fuel in it or sell it and buy a cheap economical car to fund the Strad in a few years, running an extra car to save money will be difficult

Lpg is a non starter, had it on an old rangie and spent any fuel saving on new airflow meters, needs to be much cheaper like it was at 35p/l

Just enjoy the GT on those trips

I am the wrong man for this thread. For years my motorway muncher has been the supercharged Rangie. Super comfy and safe, with great visibility. Not so hot on the mpg however.

But my new Hybrid Rangie arrived on a Thursday and I took it to Oxford and back yesterday. It averaged 36mpg, so pretty much exactly double what I averaged in the old one. Happy days.

I’m going to say it, Golf. Or Passat.

Get a nice spec intergalactic mileage MK6 for £3.5k, run it forever just adding oil, sell it for £2k when you are done.

Or, get the train to Nottingham, and Luton.

And how much would that be?

C

I think something around £1600 as it needs the clutch - it has a solid fly conversion and I still have the original dual mass in a box - that was ok when it came out.

It's not as big or as comfy as the mercs, jags and Volvos, but different20180225_164450-01-01.jpeg

That's part of the issue. I'm not enjoying it that much :(

Hmm, Passat. There's a thought. Deffo not a Golf

Train would be a shout except I have to go into London, around a bit and back out again. So effectively I need to leave yeasterday :(

Drive to Luton Airport Parkway and go from there.
