All sorts of stuff at the next Historics auction. How about a 4lt W8 VW Passat, with 4 wheel drive, full leather, etc. Only 40k miles, and likely to go for what, £4K?

Love W8s had a couple real sleepers but if anything goes wrong with that engine you are stuffed VW dealers have no idea and parts are silly money, I was quoted £2.5k for a timing chain, £1k for chain guides plus labour and its an engine out job as its at the back.

Keep lurking on here as after a qp GTS in the new year but just bought a e38 728 as a stopgap whilst main car in with electrical issues
Such a nice place to sit on the motorway, and the 728 appears to do mid thirty mpg at motorway speeds

Blooming’ell didn’t know you were still around!

What you been up to?

Kitty, spend £2k on an Alfa GT JTDm and run it into the ground. Does everything brilliant and great to drive. Italian too so on brand. Ultra reliable, 550-600 miles to a tank and long cruise brilliantly.

Amazing how they made the basic model of the whole range into the most amazing WRC car which to this day are still amazing to watch.

Isn't the story that the only parts it shares with the actual road car is the roof?

I know where two are. A blue and white one in Rayleigh, Essex, and a yellow and blue one near Dover.
I'm guessing neither are for sale, but both road legal.

didn't really share anything from the actual metro bodywork/car apart from the steel doors and dash in the clubman, specially designed chassis with fibreglass panels, the roof is aluminium and pop riveted on

RR's are nice motors, but a real money pit when they go wrong and they will, had a disco 4 and rr and worst cars I ever owned which was surprising bearing in mind that RR/LR name projects the image of quality indestructible and reliable 4x4
I think someone has already mentioned this but a nice low mileage Audi A8 would be good

Range Rovers are great mile munchers and the diesel sport can be reasonably economical, the Sport is really a Discovery 3 / 4 chassis and engine so better than a similar era full fat RR

I'm almost tempted by one myself. Especially the one I posted above.

With a family and the mileage you cover in all conditions they take some beating. We're on our third and we can't imagine life without it, ticks so many boxes, even the neighbour commented this weekend when I had one of the childrens bike sat on the tailgate whilst I serviced it, just the right height for a work bench.

Personally not a Sport fan, no split tailgate and I hate those side steps and those surfboards down the side but at that money it is a great option.

Will see what comes in over the next month and might get one.
Because of the potential costs I'm inclined to buy though a dealer for at least 6 months peace of mind.
After that, I'll probably sell it! lol!
