Hi guys, my car went in for an MOT today and they said it failed on the electronic parking brake they said its not coming on. I have had the car in storage in my dehumidified garage since October last year and i normally have the EPB turned off as once soon after I had bought the car from Dicky 3 years ago, the EPB would not release after being parked for 3 weeks!
My question is whether anyone has had a failed or failing EPB and it an easy fix? The mot garage said they don't touch maseratis? Any help would be appreciated thanks.

I can actually still hear the motor faintly coming on and off when I press the button still....

It depends why it's failed. Maybe the cables have seized or the calipers. It's quite a simple system, really

What car is it ? I think the epb motor is in the boot tyre well area on the GT and QP. If yiu have an assistant to engage the epb you should be able to access and hear / feel the epb motor kick into life.

Check the wires etc and go from there.

Apparently the hand brake shoe linings part company with their holders over time so new rear brake shoes should sort it. My 2012 gt was picked up for that last year. (Don’t think you can park it without epb coming on automatically when you switch engine off)

Lift the cover in the boot and get someone to operate it. On my qp you can watch it work. Then give the cables a tug to see if there is any movement/broken. Pulling a wheel off and the 2x13mm bolts will get you into the shoe and you can check the operation there too if needed. Probably just needs adjusting. If I were a betting man I would guess that if they were stuck on, before perhaps someone wound the adjusters right in to help release them.

Press and hold park off before turning off ignition

I had similar issue on my 2009 4.7 GTS at last year's MOT, although fortunately it just scrapped through. On investigation found the passenger side handbrake shoe was totally shot, no lining left at all. Drivers side some delamination but okay. Turned out to be a pretty easy fix. Got new shoes from Autodoc website for around £25, non OEM. I'm not great at all the mechanical DIY but borrowed a neighbour's jack and managed to replace both shoes pretty easily. Only a few bolts. Was surprised at how basic the system is for connecting the shoes to the cable. Really rudimentary stuff but I suppose simple is no bad thing.

Hi guys an update, have taken the car down to Sports Italia to have it looked at, and it appears the brake shoes are missing !? Have left the car with the guys there to fix, they were kind enough to give the car a look over as well and pointed out a few other issues, hopefully will get the car back all sorted for the end of lockdown and some fun soon! Great set up at sports Italia, with some amazing cars there today, really positive experience! Even had a drop off to the train station in a lovely Strad! Now tempted to get an X pip fitted to mine ... the sound was amazing and I thought mine sounded nice!! Lol!

Well at least it has all the fittings on the rear and it is just the linings. Someone had a different experience recently.
