The fronts needed doing...

My little tool lasted enough time to take both wheels apart, but 3 are seized in !!! The aluminium / steel issue - will get the wheel refurb guy to use some heat to get them out. About an hour on each wheel, every so often i had to hammer the tool to get a flat back on the side. I used an impact gun on the nuts.

Cut the seal and use a bit of wood and a hammer to knock them apart.

That means i have lost three bolts...... I am ok with that as having done the rears previously they are an atrocious design for a bolt and will use alternatives !

One appears to have been apart before, bolt heads all pointing in different directions.

Wheel refurb company will do the barrel and the facia i have found a polishing company that can do the rims and chrome plate the wheel bolts.

I thought you were meant to renew the bolts every time you had the wheel apart, am I mistaken?

reading the internet - no.
They aren't torqued that high so aren't under any real stress.

I am guessing you have never approached speedline for any help or spares.....

When I had mine refurbished on the blue Cup we used all new bolts and had new badges bespoke made for the centres. Nothing was available from Speedline, so used alternatives. Still looked perfect in the end though.
I used the Wheel Specialist in Fareham.
Hope you get yours all sorted in the end.

Do you mind me asking how much they are charging?

I have a very tatty set that my local place wanted £250 plus VAT per wheel to straighten and refurb which seemed a lot?

If you want to sell your scruffy set......

The little tool to try and hold the bolts £30
To strip and re finish the facia and barrel £80 per wheel.
To polish the lips £35 - £50 per lip depending on how bad they are, mine are ok so call it £40

Ignoring the tool £120 a wheel plus vat. Straightening buckled wheels is then an extra cost.
New bolts - not price yet. I reused the original bolts when i did the rears, so that was £0 but i have damaged three and they are a poor design.

Their cost would be in the labour, there are 40 or so bolts per wheel they need to be undone cleaned and then refitted, torqued and then sealed.

If it is £80- 100 for a solid wheel these are three pieces and a couple of extra hours of labour, it doesn't seem excessive.

Is it really worth it? given the cost of new ones, I do wonder?

But where is the challenge in that ? I have a set of pans with wooden handles. They are fixed in place with 150mm long m5 machine screws, over time these have rusted and the handles are loose, now i could buy new pans....

There are none on ebay, the last set was £3500, Eurospares list a front as £800 plus vat and a rear at £1400 plus vat.

My £120 a wheel plus bolts seems a fair deal.

Thanks for the reply, I don't mind getting my hands dirty so I may have a go myself.

Do you have any info on the tool please, what it is and where to get it from?

Thanks again

All you need is a circle with a flat on it.

Jim found somebody that cut and welded up a 12 point socket, mine appears to be a bit of pipe with a blob of weld on the inside to make the flat spot.
If it didn't grip properly the impact gun would spin the entire nut/bolt and i then had to hammer a flat on it again.

It is nothing clever the bolt head is a circle with a flat spot, it is the flat spot you need to grip.

if you want one of the damaged bolts (thread not head) PM me your address, it will be easier to work on a loose bolt than one still attached to the wheel,
