More noise needed :)

I love my GT but can't help but think that a bit more noise would make it sound even better. I'm not talking about anything (too) antisocial and likewise I'm really not interested in chasing bhp but am interested to understand options and opinions of this forum.

As I see it there are 3 options (or a combination of). Can anyone comment on the differences this makes to an otherwise stock system:

1 - free flowing cat (or decat?)
2 - H / X pipe
3 - rear boxes

Thanks

I would change the centre section first as it's the easiest to fit and least expensive upgrade, and then live with it for a bit as that maybe enough for you. As has been said, the X is more raspy and Italian sounding with the H more US muscle car & burbly, personally I have always preferred the X but both of these are a great improvement over the OEM silenced centre section.
If this isn't enough for you, the sports cats such as those offered by Larini would be the next natural step to take and it's big jump in terms of sound plus a small performance increase too, as well as the benefit of the safe guard of having metal cats instead of the OEM ceramic which can (rarely) break up and have a catastrophic effect on your engine.
On my MC-Shift, I went X, then sports cats and then finally Larini rear boxes too but it was too much - almost un-driveable I was told! And it's true, the noise was ridiculous and was even an advisory on the MOT.

I have a Larini X pipe on mine and really like the sound, not massively more noisy but you can definetly tell the difference.

The Larini H has silencers so is a lot more subtle that the X. Side by side with Matts Strad mine was 4 dBa quieter which actually equates to quite a lot, the difference being that his has the sport cats and an X, mine has just the X pipe. Both we slight louder than a Lamborghini Huracan that was tested later.

X pipe on mine and it’s breathtaking no exaggeration. Pure exhaust noise **** it just lifts what was already an amazing sound

Anyone around Essex/Kent/Greater London with an X pipe on a GTS that wouldn’t mind letting me hear it?

Come to the next Ace Meet. There will be a few there!

Good idea, you definitely need to listen to them in the flesh as it were rather than rely on online videos, and try to take a ride to hear the onboard intrusion too as some car be more distracting than others.

Got an x pipe on mine and the sound is ace. A lot more pops and bangs with the valves open and it registered nearly 111dBa! However, it's perfectly civilised with the valves closed and isn't at all intrusive on a cruise. Definitely recommend it. I think any more would be too much for me personally.

113 dBa :thumb3:

Loud enough to make the chap doing the measuring say “What” very loudly when anyone talked to him anyway.

Strad rear cans, Larini X and Larini Sports Cats is ridiculous but great for events but not for daily use.

I also have the Larini silenced H and it will be going back on.

Can’t remember what the sound level was, 117db or 127db seems to ring a bell.

I think you were 117, which is a LOT louder than mine!

Thanks chaps for all of your input ..... sounds as if an X pipe is the way to go.

Is it just Larini that offer these .. or are they the best?

That is my exact set up and when not in race, I find it fine. With just the X, I could barely hear it in the cab but with the cats it's great. Admittedly, when in race all h3ll breaks loose but absolutely fantastic of course.
Maybe it's my years of working in night clubs and the damage done to my ears, but I don't find it too loud at all!
