If it floats, flies, fvcks or eats hay, rent it.

For some bizarre reason, this made me think of the Grand Tour and the episode about donkey loving Colombians... a donkey would meet 3 out of 4 of these... Can anyone think of anything that meets all 4?

Me,
When,
I’m swimming
I’m in economy
I’m in the wife’s good books
And I flavour my food regularly with Hay as per Michelin star standards.
Don’t you lot?

A boat such as this this (in size, age, style) will set you back about £10M. So quite a lot. But it’ll charter for around £150,000 per week, so you don’t actually need to rent it out for that many weeks per year to justify it.

That said, a hard Brexit will see this summers chartering demand drop dramatically. So it’s probably best to sit tight on your £10M for the moment, than snap up a bargain in a years time.

I'll bear that in mind for next year. ;)

It was on the market for £17.4m euro last year. A weeks charter starts at 180k euro. 100 weeks charter to get your money back !
I imagine it wil cost rather a lot to keep that in the water with moorings - maintenance- staff etc and I very much doubt anyone who bought one ever got their money back at all let alone in a 100 weeks - nice thought though !

As a general rule, the maintenance per year is 10% of the boat cost. So for a £10M boat, think £1M per year. That’ll cover the basics such as insurance, berthing, routine repairs, etc. But fuel, food, drink, etc are on top. As are the additional staff required when the boat is in use (as opposed to the more skeletal full time crew). Therefore even a modest (by super-yacht standards) yacht such as this is a considerable financial commitment.

@Wattie , does this tally with your experiences with your gin-palace in post #36? I'm concerned about crew-costs and the obligatory Musto gear if I take the plunge (so to speak) with a similar vessel. A second opinion is needed.

That's why I'd have a yacht (with sails), as it would save a fortune on fuel.
And you can't beat sailing with only the sound of the water across the bow.

I’d factored in the 10% maintenance costs....roughly £10pa for Homebase varnish, just the basic stuff- not that Yacht varnish as I wasn’t convinced that applying that would fool anyone.it clearly isn’t.
Wasn’t gonna bother with anti fouling either as I wasn’t planning to water ski behind it.
Re crew I was gonna post an advert in the “2019 Weight Loss and Fitness Accountability Club” section“ as it seems a total waste of effort (and slightly selfish) that some are rowing their nuts off on some machine in a lounge somewhere when they could be rowing me and the Mrs around.
Win, win for all involved as I saw it.
They would unfortunately have had to bring their own oars as my proposed purchase didn’t have any.
