Yep, a certain age male in a drop top....looks a cock......That's probably anyone over the age of 50 so that would be me. Add drop top Ferrari in red to that and you can add the word huge in front of it.......but.......that's not to say I wouldn't have a drop top and look a cock as I look a cock anyway in a sports car so why miss out.....I wouldn't look a huge cock though....The art of not looking a cock...or huge cock in one is to add a wife or partner to that picture....Then the cock meter does drop considerably.....Only a wife or partner of the same sort of age mind as if you are a sugar daddy then the meter goes off the scale.

So that probably make me a small cock only part of the time floating about in the wife's SLK , with the foldable roof ,sounds about right

Sorry but I agree with the Lady of the house..

I love Ferrari’s but there is a 50+ year old bald bloke around here in a red F430 convertible and he looks daft..

If he was in a classic Ferrari or similar it’s completely different.

Don't get angry at me I don’t make the rules!

Judging by the height and reflection of your vehicle it looks like you’re in a van, why is the lady taking a picture of it lol?

Saying that Italians do carry it off with some kind of sophistication ..............bit of envy there

Fiona's boxster is an excellently balanced little sports car which is a joy to stretch on winding roads but I would never drive it on my own for this very reason......just one of those unwritten laws we must all obey.

Serious response.

1. Some of us suffer from hayfever, and wearing sunglasses, even if it's not sunny, helps a lot, unless you drive everywhere with the windows up (I'm sure this isn't exclusive to men).

2. If you don't have a thick mop of hair, wearing a hat on a sunny day is a pretty wise thing to do.

The car thing is something separate, some people look daft anyway, and there are plenty of people that wear a hat or sunglasses, or both, that look perfectly fine. Some people have style and taste (fashion choice and cars), some don't.

I just think that men have more opportunity to get it wrong, especially if they get the car choice wrong.

There's also the lottery winner effect, money doesn't buy taste, but plenty of money and no taste just heightens the 'Wally factor'.

It's not even just about hayfever. I find glare uncomfortable.

Totally.

So where do we draw the line?
MAM in car, OK
MAM in car with sunroof, OK
MAM in convertable with roof up, OK
MAM in convertable with roof down, cock
Is this just an age thing because a 17 year old will look pretty similar tbh as well as a guy in their 20, 30s etc.

I think the line is that if you don't look cool, being in a cool car wont change that.

I have had at least one soft top in my fleet for the last 30 years and the only negative vibes I have ever had is from older people like this post... my MK1 Golf was always admired by the younger generation who never once were disparaging at me... apparently the car was sick... what ever that is, my mechanic could never find what was wrong with it.

I hated driving my black F430 spider in “public”, top up or down, but it was fine out on the countryside roads where it belonged. Other convertibles, I’ve never had an issue with and have never received negative public “feedback”. Think it very much depends on the place and the car. I also think there’s less envy of the individual and more appreciation of the car in continental Europe. As for the sunglasses comment, just shows a complete lack of awareness of some other people’s needs

I drop the roof at any and all possible opportunity. Over 50, check. Sunglasses, check. Cap, if its cold, check. Grin from ear to ear, check.

If someone things I look like a muppet I don't care. I'm enjoying it :D

Just had a thought.

Since when have blokes ever taken any notice of women when buying a car? All comments from the OP are null and void.

You never hear blokes telling women how ridiculous they look in certain items of clothing (through fear of retribution).
