Microwave Oven Sets off Car Alarm

So, my microwave oven reliably and repeatedly sets off my Maserati (2007 GS) car alarm!

Did a bit of research and apparently it is a thing with several makes and models. Who knew? All those GigaHertz flying around (and through solid walls and metal and glass).

Same as if you leave your phone in a GS or 4200, for example when you fill up with fuel, you’ll find it will set the alarm off as it pings the nearest cell site with its location.

Oh that is new on me as well. I wonder if either of these things explain a couple of seemingly random alarm triggers on the XK Jag recently?

I had the problem with the mobile phone, I learned very quickly not to leave it in the car. The microwave though? If it sets off your alarm I wouldn’t stand in front of it while it’s on! You might have a oven problem, you can get detectors to make sure it’s working safely.

Something like this https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https://www.ebay.co.uk/ulk/itm/113078809042

Apparently 'some' leakage is allowed and it is not that uncommon a problem but it is food for thought lol

I work in the lighting industry and majority of the "good" companies test their products so that the light fittings they manufacture and supply do not interfere with automatic doors or security tagging systems in shops but the cheap unbranded stuff from China can cause all sorts of problems.

I would hope that a microwave oven would be rated for Electromagnetic interference, I mean if it interferes with your car alarm then it could the same with other appliances or home systems... As Zep suggests maybe get it tested or buy a new one

Edit: I just saw the above post, I still wouldn't trust it but I haven't used a microwave oven in 7+ years... do not own one :)

same, but different, I have LED bulbs in my alfa, when I unlock the Maserati they come on! it doesn't unlock and they aren't full brightness, but the Alfa is certainly absorbing some of the good vibes given off by the Maserati key!
