Daily use of the Merak has started (although I have an FF arriving next weekend so it might be hard to compete with that). Amazing response from some people. Others look at it like it’s an alien spacecraft.
Beautiful!
And if using it a bit more means you appreciate it even more and therefore want to keep it, so much the better. Win-win!

See the spotted thread! It sounded utterly fabulous! Even better when you left. We were near Morrisons walking back into town and heard you allllllll the way up the hill with the wind blowing our way. Su-bloody-perb, sir. Lovely lovely car

Thank you. I'd just been to Halfords to put a bottle of fuel system cleaner into the tank after 6 months of the car sitting mainly unused with the occasional start-move-stop in the garage. Giving it 'the beans' along the A148 soon cleared the carbs and plugs.

I live 5 miles from Cromer, let me know if you'd ever like a quick spin in the Merak.

I told my 19 year old daughter that I'd been thinking about selling and she got really quite angry with me.
Did I not realise how beautiful the car is?
How anyone can just go and buy a modern car but this is 'something special' to keep?
How I would always regret it?
I was surprised by how passionate she is about the Merak.

I'm guessing it's genetic.

We're booked back in the Red Lion for December! Sadly I suspect the Merak should be tucked up by then, but at some point I would certainly take you up on that :)

Hi Belfry.
Lovely car. There doesn't seem to be many Maser owners in your neck of the woods, although, we had a North Norfok meet up a couple of years back in 'Titchwell' Dr Houx kindly arranged it, perhaps time for a other one. Anybody else up for it?

My friend used to own the 'Hairpin/Harry's Garage' Merak SS, and another has a light blue lhd Marak SS. So we had 3 SSs within 6 miles of Holt, Norfolk!
We've just been out in it and my wife drove home. The V6 sound got her overtaking with gusto.

£50K is a lot for a car that needs a full mechanical overhaul and rebuild, plus a bare metal strip and repaint with associated repairs. And that assumes you can actually get the bits - as I bet items like new window rubber surrounds are NLA. You could easily plough another £50k into this and end up with a nice car worth maybe £80k. Anyway, good luck to the buyer, and hopefully it's another old Maser back from the dead.

But would it need all of that.?

Hopefully, the new owner will have factored in all of that and has budgeted accordingly...unless it's Spoons! ;)

It’s sat unused for 40 years. So all the rubber and plastic parts will be perished, gaskets dried out, etc. The engine could even be seized. Either way, the engine will need to come out, be taken apart and rebuilt. As will the brakes, suspension, fuel lines, etc.
The good news is that the car is complete, the interior is timewarp, and the provenance excellent. But it still needs a complete nut and bolt strip and rebuild and full bare metal repaint. And at one of the proper Maserati Classiche specialists you could be looking towards a 6 figure bill for that.
Anyway, there is fantastic car here just waiting to emerge. Subject to funds!

So the "Aston Workshop" Merak is back from McGrath's and it's getting prepped for sale on Collecting Cars.
I have owned many lovely cars over the last 20 years and I am genuinely surprised that the value of my Merak has fallen since I bought it 7 years ago when most other classics and modern classics went the other direction.
It'll be interesting to see what it makes on CC. I'm just not using the car enough and it should be with someone who will use it more than me.
