Men's Health

Back in May I had a blood test which came back all clear for PSA. The count was 2, i.e very low. Last week I had a noticeable (night and day!) decrease in flow, difficulty in maintaining a flow and sometimes 'stage fright'. So I had another blood test including a urine sample.

The result was that the PSA level has risen to 26, so clearly an increase but not massive. I had a chat with the doctor today, who's has referred me to the oncology specialists. He didn't bother with the finger as the symptoms of an enlarged prostate are evident as stated above

I'll get an appointment within the next two weeks and I'll report back after that.

The aim of this post is to highlight why it's good to monitor everything going on in your body. Don't just put down any change to age. Even if you have had a test, the MOT is only valid on the day of test, it's good to have a check around once in every while yourself.
Keep us posted...pulling for you

I assume you mean 2.6?

Next week I'm due for Rezum. I am not looking forward to it.

I'm sure it'll be better once it's done, however right now it might not even go ahead as the warmth and humidity seem to have triggered a yeast issue :(

No, 26(twenty six) not 2.6, the doctor said yesterday that he had a patient with 200!

I'm not overly worried, I've read up on it on our 'gloriously free NHS' website and I like to think that, with the earlier test being just 2 only 5 months ago, it has been detected early, but it could always be benign or just wind!

I'll carry on being fit and healthy, ignore the magic potions and misinformation of the internet and put my faith in people who've studied FOR this and IN this.

Thanks for all the kind messages. I'll keep you posted on the journey.

Fingers crossed for you, let’s hope there is a simple answer for the result.

I'm in a similar boat. Got referred due to lots of getting up in the night and a rectal exam. Consultant put me on Tamulosin which seems to be helping improve the symptons. Had an MRI scan and at the follow up meeting the consultant kicked off with 'your prostate is huge!', quickly followed with 'but it looks benign'. Got to go back for a flow check and a discussion about what happens next.

It's sh!t getting old.

I didn't have a great improvement. And it turns out all the **** I had over the late sping / summer was caused by it. Interestingly I had cause to have my BP taken here, and was expecting it to be rather higher than previously given coming off the Tamsulosin and the general heat / food / booze. 107/79 which I'm happy with.

From the experience of my PT, you may want to discuss general vs local pain relief. He had two, 6 months apart. First one under local relief did not have a great experience. Second time the consultant actually sent him away because he refused to do comparatively young 'taut' men under local relief. The recovery post general was way better.

Good luck with it in any event.

i get a yearly PSA test as I'm told the finger up the **** only feels one side of the prostrate so is largely pointless
