Memory Foam Mattress Smell

Hi,

Just got a new mattress with a layer of memory foam, when in the shop I did notice a smell but put it down to a musty pillow or the bed having been in display for a while.

Got the new mattress delivered and first night on it last night couldn't sleep because of the smell eminating from the memory foam (which my other half can't smell).

From what I've read the smell can last for up to two weeks as the foam element 'offgases' or something.

Just wondered if anybody on here had had one and had been so sensitive to the smell they had to swap as it never went away, I'm worried as I could smell it in the shop and have no idea how long that mattress would have been on display.

Went in the bedroom a short while ago and I was nearly physically sick the smell was so strong but other half still couldn't smell it

I do suffer from Allergic Asthma and have serious problems with animals and chemicals fumes and sometimes get allergy attacks just from entering an environment I've never been in before so maybe it is this and as a sufferer the mattress will have to go back

Any advice much appreciated.

God, never heard of that one Sean......You may need a trip back to the shop me thinks. That doesn't sound right.

Never heard of these mattresses - is it recommended for your allergy as to why you have purchased this specific type?

GD, I would speak to the shop and tell them the problem, ask them to contact the manufacturers for advice. if they are a reputible brand they will investigate.
if that doesn't do any good the next place i would go is the trading standards, they are very concerned about sub standard products, and products unfit for purpose. As this is chemicals emitting from a domestic pruduct , which is a health hazzard, I would expect them to take this very seriously.
There is also the local paper, if the shop & manufacturer give you the run around tell them that you will be contacting the local paper to warn others about the health risk from this product.

Good luck

We bought a new memory foam /vibrating bed a few months back , set up by the shop in the bedroom , was a very slight very minimal smell but was gone in a day or two , we always leave the bedroom window permanently open so cant say ive ever noticed it since , the vibrating massage wave thing is brilliant for my back and when were both in a lazy mood hehehehhe
