On launch I was not impressed, it's not the usual Maserati recipe of sporty GT handling and a noisy V8. But, I have warmed to the car recently and, having seen the one owned by Andrew North at Alexanders Prestige, I think it's a marvellous thing. IMHO, it's a slightly larger V6 version of the Alfa 4C which is not surprising as I understand it was originally going to be the Alfa 6C. I will definitely be in the market for one in the future.
Before it was supposed to be the Alfa 6C it was going to be the Nuovo Ferrari Dino, apparently.
Not only would the margins be too thin for a ‘cheap’ Ferrari, what with the carbon tub, but selling more Ferraris would take the firm into a different EU group average emissions bracket.
It’s also why the Purosangue SUV is limited numbers, which runs contrary to the whole point of having an SUV in the lineup.

Liked it on TG last night but have it over my Perf? Nah would feel short changed and losing 4 cylinders and that sound would leave me feeling underwhelmed every time I drive it! Might visit one if they drop to sub £100k in the next few years.

I think it was @outrun that said, buy a second hand Ferrari when the majority of the depreciation has occurred and you can enjoy it for what it is, without having to worry about it, finacially.

When I saw the MC20 in the flesh at Savile Row concours event I absolutely loved it.
Sadly what it is missing is a V8 and the noise.

Which gets you down to the nitty gritty. Would you take a 488 over an MC20? Not sure I would.

The 488 can be made to sound 'proper' with a Novitec exhaust. Probably someone will do the same with the MC20. But then it's still missing at least 2 cylinders.

Like most (if I could afford one) I'd take one in a few years when it may have depreciated a bit. Although from speaking with the guy from HR Owen at the event, the order book is full for the next 2 years for both coupe and convertible.
That means depreciation isn't going to happen any time soon.

Very positive review from Top Gear that seems to clear up some of the debate about the real purpose and nature of the car…

Great review and faster than a Veyron SS around the track!

I think the MC20 is more of a competitor to the Ferrari 296 GTB than 488. V8's even with twin turbos will be consigned to history very soon. Hybrid V6TT will be the way forward...sadly.

one thing though, the MC20 is cheaper...just... but I need 6 numbers on a Saturday to come in...

I have to say I am not fussed if a car as V6, V8 or V12 these days. For me it’s the looks and how it drives and makes you feel and if a 6 cylinder engine ticks all those boxes then so be it. Or even a 4….I have watched a load of reviews recently of the MC20 and there really is not a bad review.

They have achieved what they did with the QP but on a different level. A car that has two characters which is happy to just drive around in relax mode but then when you want some fun it turns into Mr Hyde….Don’t now many cars that covers those two bases but from the reviews the MC20 hits the mark and for me I like that. As for the noise you can always sort that but again noise is not always top
if the list and sometimes you don’t want to be deafened every time you go for a drive. Again though you can sort the exhaust out for some more drama. As far as modern cars go for me there isn’t a better looking one than the MC20 and I am really happy to be saying that as I have been disillusioned with Maserati of late….but they are back and better with the MC20. Now we need it to filter down to the other cars coming from them.

A very complimentary review from Autotrader just published today. The shape really is growing on me. Will be amazing to see the new familial line of this and the GT, side by side.

I saw my first MC20 at the weekend as part of a static Yokohama Legends display at the Silverstone Classic.

Problem was it was sat next to both road and race spec versions of the MC12 and the De Tomaso P72 which took all the gloss off

Put an MC12 next to an MC20 race or not and the MC20 will always be the better looking car for me. The MC12 was not a pretty car …. I liked them but no where near as good looking as the MC20 for me.

I like Saleens and Moslers and the MC12 is the daddy of all the modern longtail styled endurance racers. MC20 looks like a shopping trolley to me next to the MC12.

The De Tomaso though is also great in that the interior lives up to the exterior. That was rolling into the pits to park up after a parade lap and even at crawling speeds it looked and sounded special.

So here is a poser for you all.

A used MC20 a few years old, what sticker price will it need to be for you to bite?

Me: £135k, I may be waiting some time.

^^^the reasoning for this is not the money to purchase, it’s the potential loss. I feel £100k will be the floor and they will never drop below it. At that price I would feel comfortable at a £35k bath so pull the trigger

I think you may have to wait a while buddy. Will they drop below 150k …. Limited availability, the best reviews of any Maserati and those looks could help keep them a bit higher than normal Maserati offerings.

There was an MC20 and an MC12 at Goodwood and it had the opposite effect on me. The MC12 look too big with a big **** on it compared to the perfect proportions of the MC20. We all see different things I suppose.

By the time it becomes affordable to me it will likely be too difficult to run given the way the world is going EV wise.
No so sure. Anyone with some money should be buying up Italian V8’s and dry storing them for a cash in.

I have long believed that after the initial electro rush many will be looking for a weekend toy.

even your run of the mill electro Corsa type superminis will be whooshing to 60 in 3 seconds and how good will it feel in a noisy V8 in a sea of washing machines.

I agree. I think it will take a couple of years for the depreciation to start to kick in and they will drop to the mid 100s somewhere. At which point, the curve is much slower and the risk reduced. At 150-160k, i'm interested.

Once there is a new baby Lambo etc on the market, attention will switch and they will drop a little.

You also have to remember that they are made on the Modena line and can produce a lot of them so eventually the supply will satisfy demand and prices drop
