I've just bought a V8 Vantage at comfortably under £30k which I think are the best 4200/GS sized alternative I could see out there.

That's a lot of car for the money, I have been waiting for the review and report on initial comparisons

Looks like your old car????

I've never seen that video. That car is the press one, RX11 OPO, my one (now @Zep) is also RX11 but not the same last 3 digits. They are from the first batch delivered obviously. Mine (Zep's) also had yellow calipers which are worth 2seconds a lap.

Joking aside, it's never going to be the fastest track car, that's not its point of course. It's the way it does it that's sublime.

Don't be so modest on the Strads behalf. Even the TG guys were shocked how close it was to the F430 lap time..

I love the Stradale but not 100% convinced it is twice the car of a GT S MC Shift.

The Vantage is a better size than the GT's if you don't need 4 seats and a bit lighter than a Strad. Depends what you need I guess.

Does that come in a non-manual version?

The c63 Black is very quick too, faster than a Ferrari 599. LP640 is Carrera GT fast.

The TG car was almost exactly the same spec as mine (ex Outrun) but with the slower red calipers.

For my tuppence, I absolutely love my Strad, and it took a lot for me to change from my GS. I have given lifts to various GTS MC owners and they all comment on the improved suspension and gear change.

The Strad is more composed, but just as playful as a GS. It feels special every time I drive it, the seats are awesome and it is much, much easier to drive across continents in.

But every Maserati is special, so you pay your money and take your choice.

Yep, I concur....all DB9's are V12's. Not a bad thing in my book

I went Vantage V8 as the Vantage V12 entry price was too far north for me at the moment. Also went manual as Sportshift I didn't seem the best option. The Sportshift II didn't come into the Vantage V8 until 2012 so again a price too far north. I actually think the 4.3 manual Vantage V8 is the perfect all round option really.

I think the DB9 has a ZF auto box rather than Sportshift although it was updated and improved in 2009. Or a manual also available.

A decent enough DB9 can be found for £25k so cracking VFM.

Vast majority of DB9s are auto. The few manuals around command a premium and would be the one to buy if you want to hold on to it for a while.
My ideal would have been a manual Volante. I started off looking at V8 Vantage but decided I had done the V8 with the 4200 and I needed a V12. Don't regret it. V12 Vantage is a different animal to the DB9. Power delivery is more laid back in the 9 but with close on 500hp it isn't slow. I use the paddles all the time rather than letting the autobox choose the gears. Got caught on a kickdown when I booted it hard and dropped one gear more than I expected and lit up the rear tyres and some tail wagging ensued. Also getting about 23mpg which I never saw in the 4200. Had mine 2 years and still loving it and it has been pretty much faultless. V8 Vantage is still a stunning car and I really don't see them getting much cheaper than they are just now. Aston like Ferrari depreciate so far and then plateau out.
