MC Stradale Emblem

New one on order about £68 and yes, you have to remove the facia to release the securing bits from behind. I may see if I can tap out the red bits on the new ones and hot glue them back in again. It’s because the metal part is chromed then the enamel is flooded is and it cant grip it.
Hi @conaero , I've bought a replacement emblem for the GranCabrio MC, as the red paint on the "M" had fallen out.
When I received the new emblem I saw it had 4 'mounting pins' behind it; so I thought it was just a case of pulling out the old one and sliding the new one in.... but that doesn't quite appear to be the case.
I've managed to pull the old one out, but 2 of the 4 pins have broken off inside the dash! If I remove the glovebox, will I be able to remove the 2 broken pins (so they don't rattle around)? Or do I have to remove the facia that the emblem mounts on to?
What are the "securing bits" you mention in your post above?

Cheers,
T

The pins are secured by spring washers behind the dash panel.

If you poke them through they will fall into the area behind the dash panel and do no harm. If you want to recover them you will have to take the dash panel off which is quite involved. If you are having carplay installed that would be a good time to get the bits out.

Or if there is no cavity you will have to remove the facia....about 30/45mins to do.

Remove the centre consul and pull aft.

Remove the two screws it reveals.

Release the head unit and the two screws inside

Open the glove box and remove the upper fixings

Remove the upper trim with a trim tool and remove the fixings behind

Drop the lower steering cowl and remove the hidden dash screw.

Ah, that explains a lot, thanks Zep. ...I think they have already fallen out, but I am a bit worried about them rattling around when driving. Yeah, it makes sense to retrieve them when having the ACP/AA installed; only question is, I am not sure when that will be (depends when Paul can do the install)!

Hmmm, not easy then! (Although it probably isn't too difficult for someone that knows what they're doing / has removed the fascia before.)

What a hassle, bet you wish you’d just painted them in now!
I did try and paint it Wattie, but suffice to say that my painting skills aren't that good! (It looked terrible! lol)

Holy moly! Part of me now wishes the red paint had fallen out in the first 3 years now!

Aha! I do like this forum. My MC is mostly missing the red. Humbrol already delivered before I read this! Alternative I thought of was low temp enamelling but I went with the airfix solution. Now I know it’s easier to paint in situ than risk spring washers fighting back.
Next post : how to get model aeroplane paint off fingers, leather, carpet, dash trims....

Xylene, cellulose thinners, acetone (nail varnish remover) or Aifix/Humbrol thinners.
Alternatively complete the job and paint your nails properly

Method in the madness ^^^ ?
The modern technique for nails is U.V. activated gel coat. Must be a similar fix for these badges - just need the red colour code. ( DKR ) :D

I can’t imagine anyone would have one lying around. Just order it from Maserati (or Eurospares).

Puzzled as to why someone would change the correct badge for an incorrect one? There are a couple of on Ebay from Australia but I can't imagine they're cheaper than one from a MD

Like putting an AMG or even worse, a Brabus badge on the back of a Merc with a single exhaust
