That McLaren is amazing.. Judging by that people asking £90-100K for 10 year old Gallardo's appear to be in LaLa land!
They will give a GFV of 50k after 3 years on that McLaren so equally pricey to buy and run. I think it will be worth more than that......assuming you can find someone to buy it, which is one of the problems as main dealers don’t want them back. If you have cash and intend to keep it I think it represents cracking value for money.

Does anyone take this car as an investment seriously anymore?
I think we all know there Are very few That hold their value - let alone gain.
It has to be unique, incredibly expensive to start with and it certainly doesn’t have “Maserati” in front of it.
Fortunately, where I think “Maserati” (we) are lucky, is that they have reached out and touched a select few who understand the “magic” that owning one brings. The uniqueness.
99% of buyers don’t buy one as an investment. They buy because, firstly- they’re petrol heads, secondly- we’re different, thirdly- if you’re like me, you never ever thought you’d be able to afford one!
Fourth- once you drive one of the old 4.7’s it totally changes your perception of what’s important in a car.
And you never get over the experience.
I agree to an extent. I don’t judge the GT by the standards I would other similar cars. I forgive it for things I wouldn’t others and judge it by a different set of parameters. Maybe I am blinded by the looks and sound but I love it for what it is.

That's an interesting statement. What cars are you judging the GT against because I can't think of a single 4 seater equivalent.

Agreed from a practicality perspective, I would argue unique if you want to carry more than one passenger. I was referring to more technical elements such as speed, braking, handling, grip, gearbox and various bits of technology etc.

That makes sense - thanks.

I particularly wanted capability to move 4 adults and there was no competition and it is amusing to watch f#cktards stumble when I am asked why I bought a Maserati / didn't buy and X Y or Z instead.

My response - find me another GT car than will take 4 people? In fact, find me any car that will take 4 adults in relative comfort and looks and sounds anywhere near as good as the GT.

Have always said this is the GT’s party piece. Actual half decent room for 4. It’s a big old thing but I lie that and the presence it gives.

Hopefully the next GT hasn’t been squeezed so that the back seats are rendered suitcase shelves only

100% agreed. I adore it partly because the family can come along and participate in the enjoyment. Everything else I considered would mean too many sacrifices if I wanted the ability to use it often and seat everyone in comfort. My daughter has more room in the back than she does in my wife’s Audi S5. Add the sound, looks, rareness and relative affordability into the equation and it lives in a bracket all by itself. Oh, and it’s also a Maserati which I think makes it sub zero cool.

Maybe the only thing that comes close is an FF. I like them but appreciate the looks are marmite and that’s before you consider they are twice as expensive and are a different prospect in terms of running costs.

I showed my 14-year old son a picture of the MC20 this morning. His reaction was disappointment - “It looks like a 458 with a Maserati badge stuck on”.

I have to say, I tend to agree - it could have been more individual. The 458 was launched 11 years ago so the MC20 should have moved the styling on significantly

Even if the MC20 sells for £150k I would still rather have a used Ferrari. An F12, Portofino or 458 would probably make more sense and retain more value. Tbh, sadly, I’d probably take a well specced Cali T over an MC20.

It will be interesting to watch, the residuals on GranTurismos have actually been very strong. Ferrari residuals are not great. If you had paid £240k for a 488 which retails at £165/70k at three years old and take in the typical Ferrari £25k used car margin and you have dropped £95/100k in three years. The retained value is 58/60% which sounds ok but it's the cash cost that hurts as they have aggressively moved prices up over the last two decades - a 355 started at under £100k. Food for thought............

PS This is what Maser is up against - pre reg 570 McLaren for £120k:

https://www.sytner.co.uk/car-search/11233018-1342351-mc-laren-570-v8-2dr-ssg-auto/

As a rule I don't normally like McLarens. But that is lovely!

Most of the renders I have seen of the MC20 look like lazy attempts by magazines to show what they think it will look like by sticking a Ferrari or Alfa bits on it.

I agree, sort of, but give them (the designers) a break because there is only so much you can to regarding the shape of a modern, mid-engined sports car. Unless you make the engine transversal like the Miura. Oh, and put eyelashes on it.

Devil’s advocate - 997 Turbo?
Obviously I’d prefer the Maser as it looks and sounds better... but the Porsche does the GT/4 seat thing well.

Not in my experience. Whereas you can just about squeeze a small adult into the back if the driver is short or prepared to compromise their driving position, the sloping rear makes it a very unpleasant place to be. I'm six foot and I have never been able to adjust any 911 variant to allow an adult to sit behind me. Contrast that to the GT where my son (who is 6 3) can sit behind me.

Saw a Mac GT for the first time yesterday and I was impressed. Much better looking than the usual offerings but I still wouldn’t have one. Depreciation, reliability and support are likely to be as bad as always.

It does look very good. Must be the colour / wheels. The 570 looks awful in bright colours (other models seem to carry bright better). Have a look at Henry Catchpole's excellent Carfection review of the 600LT Spider. He loved it but that engine don't got no soul, and that's where Maserati (and Aston N/A V12s, obvs) win hands down.

I'd not like to break down in Europe in a Maclaren. Mind you, breaking down in Europe in anything invariably seems to result in a series of Gallic shrugs, some half-hearted inept tinkering and a tow truck.

I'd also not like to try to sell or p/x a Mac back to a main dealer because they don't want them. Buy a Mac only if you want to keep it for life.

Is that you saying MacLarens are dog like?

"Remember, a MacLaren is not just for when your man maths calculator says it's ok to get one. You need to keep it and treasure it for the rest of your life.

This has been a public information announcement on behalf of the People who Bore People at Parties about their MacLarens Party."

These days whenever I meet a MacLaren owner (except my mate Gav), I tend to feel sorry for them. They are the motoring equivalent of herpes or HIV; once you get one you can’t get rid of it.
