Maserati vs F type

The Cali is in for a service and I have been given a 2017 V6 F type R as a temporary car. Although
I admit it is quite good looking - IMO it's not a patch on the GTs I had recently.
I just don't enjoy driving that much.
The GTs was always an event and I loved it.
The F type is a small 2 seater, doesn't sound as good as the GTs, doesn't look as good, less space and v dull. No carbon or alcantara in sight- and this is a well specced one. I know they are slightly different price points new- but this must have cost 60ish. IMG_7471.jpg
It has also made me realise that even though the Cali was more expensive - it was worth the extra over the F type.
Can't wait to get it back, and I have to say I can't imagine changing it for a long time. Bob's theory is best.

Drove the v8 and V6 thought it was brilliant Iain....one of the best looking new cars on the road......Thought it sounded great as well and looked as good as the GTS and was more fun on the twisty stuff..... But we all like different things in a car I suppose.....Was it the AWD one or rear wheel drive...All new ones are AWD and I found the RWD was much more fun. As for no carbon and alcantara you can have both as it's available but as we Maserati carbons an option. Alcantara you can have on the roof lining seats and extended to the centre console and steering wheel.....So options pretty much the same as you can spec a new Maserati.......Not many with the alcantara as it would seem new buyers like full leather.

Ah, it was only borne out of financial considerations! I would still happily change my 'nice' car often but most cars over a certain price point are hard to buy/sell privately and dealer margins on such cars are high. I worked out that I could have a nicer nice car by keeping it longer...

I must try an F Type as I mentally had positioned it to replace the GranTurismo if Maserati botch the new coupe or just forget to make one.

I have not driven one or been a passenger in one, but F Types do always turn my head and I think they're one of the better looking coupes on the road but I wouldn't swap one for mine personally

After driving all I would have an F Type R over a GTS but not over a Stradale.....but I think they are very different cars.... GT is what it says on the tin a grand tourer where as the F is a sports car and it felt more fun in my favourite twisty bit and for me I would be after a Sports car next...Both cars are brilliant though....

Wow - ANYONE who swapped a Strad for one of these- I would refer for a psych opinion.
The strad looks better, sounds better, more theatre and has 4 seats. I don't 'think' any of these points can be argued.
No doubt its a nice looking car - but I don't think its a patch on a GTs never mind a strad.

As Andy has said before though the V8 is a different beast and I hear very good reports about its drivability.

Its a 2017 Andy - single twin exhaust and an 'R' - whats the difference between the R and non R?

They have just added a 4 pot but before then Iain the R was the V8 with 545 bhp.....You have the S which is a V6 with 380bhp and then the standard V6 with 340bhp.......All R's are V8's....To add to that they have the Sport 400 limited edition which is the one the dealer lent me which was a 400Bhp V6....

The V8 R was rear wheel drive but then they added AWD and now I believe you can only get the V8 R in rear wheel drive.....There was talk of customers throwing the RWD into ditches ..... 550 bhp and rear wheel drive was a bit of a animal...but this was the rumour.

To confuse things before the Coupe came out the Convertable F V8 was called S not R and had just under 500 bhp but the V6 was also called S.

Ah when I looked at the one they gave you I thought it was a V8 but see it's a V6....Its a face lift car so they have changed the model names......So you can get the following now...

F Type 300 bhp 4 cylinder 2 litre
F Type 340 bhp 3 litre V6

F Type R dynamic 300 bhp 4 cylinder 2 litre
F Type R dynamic 340 bhp 3 litre V6
F Type R dynamic 380 bhp 3 litre V6 (RWD or AWD)

F Type Sport 400 - 400 bhp 3 litre V6 (RWD or AWD)

F Type R 550 bhp 5 litre V8 AWD

F Type SVR 575 bhp V8 AWD

I drove all the F Types at an Evo/Jaguar day @ Milbrook. Awesome all of them but the V8R was my pick. Also like the convertible just as much as the Coupe. I would agree with Andy I think that I would have a V8R over a GT S but would have a Strad over that. The F Type V8R must be a bit smaller, lighter & more nimble than an old tech ageing GT S.

Also like the Convertable buddy....The V8 S one which starts at around 42k is a cracking V8 Convertable for the money.

WTF. thats confusing... I think this one is an F Type R dynamic 380 bhp 3 litre V6.

Would agree with that. A convertible v8 F type over a GTS.
But not a V6 coupe in my opinion.
And strad over all of them..

I would agree no V6 SC F Type for me either. It is a common engine now and being used all through the JLR range. In the XF & XE now isn't it? Or will be if not in both already.

Has to be the V8 or nothing. I am biased as a serial V8 head. I only have 4 of them now with a little V6, a 4 pot petrol & 4 pot weasel (missus!). Car not her!!

Just missed adding another V8 though. A nice SC V8 AMG Merc but guy didn't accept my more than fair 11k offer. He still hasn't sold it yet.
