When I heard this, was it just me wondering if the Alfa Romeo F1 team will be rebranded to Maserati? Seems to be essential for premium brands such as Mercedes, Ferrrari,Aston Martin and McLaren....and would probably align better with FCA’s strategy...

GT racing with the MC20 is it not?

Possibly IMSA too seeing as I’m sure USA will be the target market for most models.

Yes, the MC20 I believe

Since the Granturismo Trofeo series finished at the end of 2016 and they sold off the 42 cars (including mine) to be used as GT4 cars in various series around the world, they supported the individual private teams to a degree but there was no works GT4 team as such. They then stopped their factory support last year as the fees payable to SRO were very high and there was no direct benefit to Maserati as the Granturismo production had ended.
They still have a warehouse of spare parts for these 42 cars fortunately which I have been regularly raiding

Shame it was not Renault instead of Peugeot that bought in as it could have worked in F1

They certainly won’t have the Ferrari unit that’s for sure.

Wouldn’t want to see them in F1. I think Astons foray into F1 is going to be about as successful as the first effort and is daft.

MC20 in GT racing is going to be brilliant. Le Mans, Spa and gainst the Corvettes at Daytona. Superb and great marketing too.

Isn’t the Alfa Romeo team at the bottom of the grid if so rebranding would be a terrible move.

GT racing would make sense, that’s where the MC12 dominated and they’d like to repeat that with the MC20. They could even race the new GranTurismo in the lesser classes.

I think they’ve raced the GranSport back in the day but it wasn’t successful.

Agree F1 isn't the answer. Feels like they are future looking with the hybrid and electric era cars so Formula E would make more sense and I think I read somewhere they are looking into it....

Does the GT series actually generate any sales though? Whenever I have been to GT racing, it is not the winner I remember or the best turned out race team or anything that would actually drive a sale ..... it is the rumble of the Corvettes as they blast past.

Well that an the camel toes of the grid girls :)

Sometimes it's better to live on past glories and it would take a lot to beat that of the 250F. Better then to concentrate on GT classes and forget any F1 ambitions (if they ever existed), after all Porsche does alright without it. I don't think F-E has the attraction or kudos of F1 - or ever will have.

AMEN!

When I went to watch BTCC a couple of years ago, my mate didn't understand why when we went to see the drivers in the pit lane, I made no effort to approach the drivers at all for signatures........ I wasn't there for the drivers

Oh I dunno, wouldn’t be hard to beat Ferrari at the moment.
