This is my old car

Parts required totalled about £10k if purchased from dealers. Biggest issue is the rear quarter and the GTS specific bumper which is rare to come across used. Most body shops also didn't want to go near the rear quarter as it was bonded and welded I believe and so left me with a very small group of body shops willing to do the work. I chose Chartwells in Derby who have a great reputation with exotic car repairs but obviously total cost was too much for me to make it viable.

Other than that an awesome car in amazing condition which had been detailed the week before the accident. I just couldn't justify purchase back from insurance and the parts cost as I would end up with a cat N and near enough the price of a non cat car.

If you are happy to by used parts then it has minimal damage and was hit at about 15MPH by a LHD truck driver who cut across the roundabout.

New Parts Needed - Rear bumper, bumper brackets, rear lights, new door, new sill and new quarter panel.

3 Wheels curbed due to pushing me onto the roundabout but insurance would only replace not refurb so that was a £2400 cost as well but they can easily be refurbed.

You must be gutted about that. Are you going to look out for another (not easy I know), or try something else?

Looks like it could end up back on the road though for someone, be a shame if it was broken for spares.

Really gutted and tried everything to get it to a reasonable overall cost but when all that failed I just decided it was best to leave it and find a new car. Definitely not got the car out of my system so will be on the lookout for another but has to be low mileage and they are getting a bit rare.

Lovely car AbidK. As above bet you were gutted. Great addition to the thread as if it's 10k to fix then it's well above the price of a good one at the asking price of 18995. Most are around 23k to 27k these day.

I was offered it back at 14K as repair estimate was £23 plus vat with 3 new wheels so taking those off the list still left a repair bill of £20k and to be honest if was ever to go ahead with the repair it would be a long term car for me and the work would have to be carried out by the likes of Chartwell as there is nothing worse than a repair where the owner has cut corners.

Saying that there is absolutely no structural damage at all, its is all cosmetic bolt on panels so if someone did want to get used parts and get it repaired they will have a really sound car. It had only come out of Shiltec the week before having had a inspection that I wanted for peace of mind as it was supposed to be my daily as I had done about 4000 miles in 3/4 weeks of having the car.

£23, that's cheap;), on a serious note that is a p1ss easy repair for anyone in bodywork but there's always that stigma of cat cars when trying to re sell at some stage in the future and only worth at least 25% less than non cat car values, wonder what the salvage dealer paid

yup agreed, that asking price simply doesn't stack up bearing in mind it's value when repaired as a post cat repaired car

Quite a few body shops I called didn’t seem too keen to take on a aluminium quarter panel replacement not sure what the issue is as not really that clued up about bodywork. If someone can get the parts used then I’m sure it will stack up but for me I couldn’t justify it.

Will keep an eye out for a replacement, missed what looked like a bargain last month when there was one up for 28k with low mileage.

What I am impressed with is your comment earlier that you had already done 4000 miles in it in just 3/4 weeks as a daily driver!

Thats pretty hardcore, well done!

No point having a car to look at imo might aswell use it daily and enjoy it I say. I do about 60k a year so try and spread over a couple of cars if I can but quite often I get comfortable in a car and end up never swapping and Instead putting the miles on 1 car.
