Am thinking of replacing the exhaust to get the oval one, to achieve similar sound to gts...

I had a 4.2L GTS and there was no difference except indirectly from a sportier transmission map allowing the car to rev higher. You will need exhaust valves fitted to make a real difference to the sound. X-pipe etc will only make the car sound raspier and more like a muscle car.

I just really wanted that deep baritone sound when you start the vehicle and accelerate slowly around town. Don't really want her to scream when on high revs...

The challenge here is that the manual valves open all the way immediately. The factory ones open gradually with revs. So a manual set up still sounds pretty leary even when you're just creeping away from the lights. AMHIK ;)

Thanks, not too sure about both sounds TBH. If you watch the video where Clarkson, Hammond and May fool about in quattroporte, Aston and panamera, that's the sound of Maserati am after, without having to splash 25k on gts award winning edition...
Think it's probably stock, just you can't hear it in the cabin! Double-glazing etc.....

I agree not a fan of both. The Top Gear QP was a 4.7 GTS, which will sound the same as a standard 4.7 S with exhaust valves. The problem is not ever 4.7 S was fitted with valves. In your case, the 4.2 is significantly more muted than a 4.7 and doesn't sound as 'deep'. I would try and get the most out of your current sound by putting a valved system on which you can control on and off.

I have wanted a little more noise and excitement, but without making the kids sick on the long hauls! Experience of this in my younger years with ‘sensible’ Impreza’s. amazing how a EJ25 with Gnome back-box can make children vomit! Add in the literally absurd costs for a Larini system or part there of, just out of my sensible (wife maths) league. I have found a guy on eBay who does a refurb and sound mod service. From internet stalking, they own a very nice bespoke furniture business. I like to think he owns a Maserati, and if you’re reading this please update your sound files on eBay. I’m interested but can’t play the files.

Not plugging, and have seen no other info. Just want a little more growl, but silence at legal limits with the seats full. Would be grateful for any other info myself.
