Unsure of source of info, and accuracy, but there’s a great deal of truth within it somewhere. And then there’s battery disposal into developing countries which is far worse. View attachment 62084

I've used that one before. I think the top pic is actually a copper mine.

However, the main thing which will stop EV's is that 90% of the lithium mines in the world are either in China (or Chinese territory), or owned by the Chinese.

Can you imagine the uproar if the world (the US in particular) decide that we all will not use petrol and diesel any more and EV's are the way to go.
The POTUS will have to declare war on the Chinese as they control nearly all the worlds fuel, meaning they can hike prices and hold the world to ransom whenever they want.
It just won't happen.

The Japanese IMHO have the right idea. They are ploughing more and more into hydrogen vehicles.
Possibly due to the continuing hatred of China and not wanting to line their pockets with any more money than they have to. But possibly because it is the better source of fuel, and because it is cleaner.

The tech isn't quite there yet, but it's improving all the time.

The way I look at the change in fueling for cars/vehicles is like music.

First you had vinyl = Petrol
Then you had the CD = EV's
Now you have MP3 = Hydrogen

We're on the CD part of the journey.

Well so do I, but I've still got CDs and MP3s and my sons are of course in the Spotify streaming generation. Cars will be the same, you'll love your cherished V8 but the daily runner will be electric and your kids' generation will be fully electrified.

It's funny what you end up getting used to. I previously worked in the music business & one part of my job was attending mastering sessions and making edits of songs & remixing. I would spend a whole day getting a seven minute song to sound just right when played on a 12" vinyl record. We would cut the record at the farthest edge of the disc to make the needle groove as slight an angle as possible & keep an even groove gap, all to get the optimum sound quality. CD mastering lost so much of the nuances that vinyl has and now we are down to MP3 and streaming, you really can't hear so much of what was intended when the songs were recorded.
There was so much dumbing down with music and this is the case with Mark's analogy too. Maybe I'm getting old but I like the good old days!

Eggs in baskets... and Maserati and Alfa etc seem to put repeating the same mistakes as before, and they are not agile enough to change tact when required.

I am 26 and I ended up going for the full petrol v8 maserati as my third car. If you have a interest in cars and own petrol engine and hybrid combustion engine performance cars, I am sure they will follow suit. Unless they have no interest in cars.

Great analogy - MP3/download for everyday, vinyl for when you want something special to treasure forever. I think hydrogen has to be the final answer, the battery route is just a time bomb ...bit like nuclear waste is/was !?
There was an interesting 5th Gear last night about EV's. The Audi seemed to tick the 'driving experience' box - Tesla a bit too sterile - but 2nd hand and battery warranty/replacement costs are just going to kill the values...
